Give me the skinny on Amsterdam...new job

After spending the last couple weeks, I have decided to take an executive producer position in the Netherlands. I will be producing smaller budget shows for television and films. I leave after the first of the year and from the information I found, its fucking cold there this time of year and doesnt get much warmer in the summer months (average high 72 WTF)?

So I am sure after hitting the coffeehouses and checking out the RLD, what the fuck else is there to do after the novelty has worn off? What should I expect in terms of cost of living compared to here in the states? Will I constantly spend holidays traveling to other countries?

Im excited yet scared. New country and the only people I will know is my crew and my bosses. So share the places I need to hit for fun and any good food places...throw in some ganja spots too. Thanks.

All I know is you won't be driving a car everywhere.... get used to walking or riding a bike everywhere and learn the trolley system.

Cost of living will be substancially higher then in most places in the states. Think LA prices. Also taxes are quite high.

Cost of living is really high. But I love Amsterdam lived there twice, but my wife can't put up with the winters cause she's Spanish and used to the sun.

Try and live in the centre, the outskirts are modern and horrible.

I've never been there, have no idea what living there would be like, but just wanted to say congrats on the new job. It sounds like fun.

Congratulations on your new job. It's not bad to live here, no worries!

Cost of living is pretty high but if you get a salary to dutch standards, you will manage. There is lots to do here, and there are lots of expats so you won't be alone. Amsterdam is quite small for a capital too so everything can be reached easily (yes, mostly by foot, bike or tram!).

Make sure you select the right neighbourhood to live in, some might be boring for you. Which company are you going to work for, in what place?
