What's the going rate for a general CSS HTML coder

I'm not talking about anything more advanced that solid coding of two and three column layouts with header / footer.

I'm interested because someone I know is looking to get into adult as a CSS coder. He's obsessively hard working and loves CSS more than life itself, so I figured he'd do well here. He's not advanced enough to cope with any programming beyond layout work.

Thanks in advance

I would assume he is fluent in HTML as well?

Yeah, his focus is using CSS in HTML to build tableless layouts, based on designs.

Why would anyone "get into adult" as a CSS coder?

That would be like someone wanting to "get into racing" as a tire producer. Why not just produce tires, for both racing and street cars?

He's either a CSS coder or he's not. There's no such thing as a "Mainstream Industry CSS Coder" or an "Adult Industry CSS Coder".

Maybe he wants to work in adult, but not directly with the content?

Potter ... of course you 'get into' an industry. Adult is very distinctively different in many ways than mainstream. The business side of it is different. You often deal with people on a more personal level, and there are a lot more smaller site webmasters who are genuinely looking to get work done by smaller, less expensive team members, including designers and coders. Why do we see 'Adult Design Companies' if there's no difference between one industry and another.

Tell him to focus on mobile development as well. If you can code proper, validated html and css then the leap to mobile is a simple one and it's a real common need right now.

I doubt it would pay much... all you basically need to do is spend few hours watching dreamweaver tutorials and you become a "css coder"... unless you mean he is a designer that also knows css well, in that case he probably would make decent $$$...

He's a lot better than a Dreamweaver coder if you mean the guy that uses the design tool. He codes by hand, in text. His results are solid. Oh well. Thanks for your opinions. Shame no one here gave any kind of going rate! :D LOL

Nobody quoted any prices, yet.

I'm gonna take a half-assed guess and say $20/hour.

If he 'gets into adult' he can expect more bitching customers and 75% less pay than he'd get 'mainstream'. WELCOME!

That's like saying you want to get in to porn and just go with a site that does random porn images. Adult Industry CSS Coder is no different from Asian Lesbians, people prefer to work with someone who knows what the biz is about rather than outsourcing a mainstream bloke and getting over the whole "You're working on a porn site".

2 cents etc.

$15 an hour, since he can't do much more than html/css
