Do you remember the first time you liad you eyes on this...

And what about the first time you had it in your house and hooked it up to the TV?

I remember there was this video store by my house that would rent you the SNES for a few dollars a night and the first time I took it home and fired that thing up I was AMAZED by the graphics. I was about 13 at the time and had been playing the old NES for as long as I can remember. The first game I tried on the new console was some cool baseball (remember the baseball games from back then were so much more fun) and I was literally shocked by how lifelike the players, field, and animations were. Checking out some of the new videos game out there, wow we have come a long way.

That's my all time favorite console. It blew my mind, and went on to become the biggest thing since entertainment of any kind started. Street Fighter II Pack arrived at Christmas for me I was smitten I still have my SNES in mint condition.... as well as my Nintendo64, GameCube and Wii

Never had one.

I had one of these instead:

Possibly still my fave console ever. Well, that and my PS3 anyway...

Wow. Had one of those. The birth of Madden Football.

After years of Atari and Intellivision Sega was a quantum leap.

One thing i will say though, when you do play the games of old again, they aren't anywhere near as good as you remember them.

I have the Sega Classics game for PS3, and one for the PSP aswell with Desert Strike, Jungle Strike etc. I played through Streets Of Rage 1,2, and 3 the other month simply to bring back memories. I enjoyed it, but probably won't play them again. Not anytime soon anyway.

When you look at those games, and then compare them with what we are all playing now (Modern Warfare 2, Forza, Resident Evil 5) it's just scary to think how much games have changed since we all got our first consoles.

Makes you wonder what we will be playing in another 10 years or so.

The SNES was before my time. I remember my parents buying me the N64, though. My friends and I spent days killing each other on Goldeneye.

I've got a SNES stuffed in a box in the basement, along with a Sega Saturn. My first console was an Atari 2600, soon followed up by a colecovision, and eventually the ADAM.

I just wish I would have kept all that old stuff.

The great thing about those consoles is you can just whip them out and plug them in and you are right back enjoying the games from decades ago.

With the crappy hardware they put out these days, I doubt there will be very many current gen systems in working condition 20+ years from now. I've had 2 xbox 360's die on me already.

I have two of them, new in the box...never opened. I'm stocking up with the hope of opening a small used game shop in a near by college town. I should have no problem getting rid of these at a premium.

I run an SNES emulator on my Android phone and take all my old favorites with me.

yep i sure do, like yesterday, not sure the year, i was maybe 19-20, one of my friends had her first baby, Toys R Us were open late so I went there to buy a baby gift. I walked in the door and I could hear that music, the Mario Brothers music, and my eyes went straight to it - I was like 'wow!'. finally a home game system with arcade game graphics.

i went back and got one the next day - it took over our living room for a long time. My dad would stay up until 4 AM playing Tetris. haha

Yea, SNES was the shit. I'm not sure I can totally say it was better than the NES simply because the NES had SO many games and was king for SO long, but SNES definitely had some of the best games of all time, especially the RPGs since both Squresoft and Enix were doing great stuff back then

I will say that Street Fighter 2 on it simply didn't compare to the arcade. I don't know why that is, but it just didn't. Seems like that's the case for any fighting game on a console that's also in an arcade. In fact, the only fighting game exclusively outside the arcades that I've played that's really good is One Must Fall, and am still surprised that other games like it never really came along.
