He did something really dumb and joked about it. You can't joke about that shit when you are making so much money and expected to be a leader on a team of turmoil. Maybe this is why so many teams passed on him years ago in the draft. I see the same think happening to him, league wise, that happened to Sprewell.

Besides being an stupid with the incident itself, and while waiting for the possible suspension, instead of behaving or at least act like if he was sorry, he also joked about it pointing with his finger his team mates like if it was a gun. Just what Stern needed to get totally pissed off.
