Which laptop maker is the best to go with here?
Looking for a laptop with the follow specs and the choices are Gateway, Dell, or Acer.
17.3" LED-backlit Intel Core i3-330M Windows 7 Home Premium 4GB DDR3 Memory HP is an option but it would cost $100 more OR for the same price I would lose the 17.3" and have to settle for a 16" (15.6 really). This is a desktop replacement and my last 3 laptops have been 17" so I'm not sure really if I could deal with such a smaller screen and resolution.. |

Check out Vaio?
Sony Vaio, 16.4" screen, Intel i7, 6gb DDR3, Win 7 home premium I've always been a sony laptop fan. Just got the one I'm on a little over 6 months ago. No major complaints, the fan motor started making a weird noise and they sent someone to the house who repaired it for free. My previous Vaio ran like a champ for almost 5 years. Only machine I've ever used to last that long. |

I don't understand the purpose of a 17" screen on a laptop ?
I was trying to get mine as small as possible so it's easy to travel with, but when I'm in the office I plug in 2 external monitors to it, a keyboard and a mouse

over the past 14 years, i have gone from (in the following order), 10.4 inch, to 12 inch, to 15 inch, to 17 inch, back to 15, then finally down to 13. i like the smaller laptops now, but not too small.

Get a Dell, they have some pretty good deals going on right now. And I'm with most peeps here, 17" is way too big. I like 15", then again the laptop is not my main computer.

If your ONLY machine is the laptop and you do not work from a main location then the big screen is useful otherwise I am looking into a netbook for the road and at home..

Dells do not hold up. Had 7 in my Real Estate office and all burn out in a year, while my cheap acer keeps pushing. My Hp handle the stress too

![]() I've worked in IT for several companies in the past decade, and never had a problem with dell quality or service. Hell, I still have an 11 year old P3 Inspiron alive and kicking that I use as an OBD II scanner in my workshop at home.

Consider a MACbook or Macbook pro. REALLY... give it a chance.
I went to the store last summer looking for a Laptop that had all of these features (in order of importance: - LONG battery life (at least 4 hours of true work life) - REALLY light. - No stupid "free trial" software BS. I looked at all the various laptops they had there. The only one that met all 3 was the Mac. I was a PC guy forever and resisted buying it but I thought why not? I played with their demo for about 15 minutes and had no trouble learning how to use it. Very intuitive. 6 Months later I LOVE the machine, and last December I finally bought an iMac desktop to replace my clunker of a PC. It's G R E A T ... It's fast, it's quiet, the screen is amazing, and best of all, it NEVER CRASHES! Really.. consider a Mac!
