what is the best Photoshop version ? (designers get in here)
I got 2 computers
on one I got Photoshop 7.0 + ImageReady 7.0 and on the other Photoshop CS3 Extended. I like Photoshop 7.0 + ImageReady 7.0 better, it's seem like CS3 is a downgrade when it comes to making banners for web usage |

The latest the better. Even if some changes are pretty subtles. Sometimes, it's only the stability of the software...

Good place to start:
Photoshop CS3 vs. CS4: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/benchmark/...op-cs3-vs-cs4/ Also, ImageReady was killed off for good with CS3. Since the acquisition of all things Macromedia, they want you to use FW for complex slicing. PS only offers slice exports as very basic prelim client comps. It's very limited in the final export department, as it should be, because it's primary function is of course graphical, not html. In my personal opinion, CS3 was an unstable, bug-riddled, barely functioning excuse for a graphic app.. but CS4 has me once again showing the love for Adobe. 7 is ancient history. If you only need PS for a few minor things on a rare occasion, then 7 will be fine. If you work with graphics all day, every day, CS4 is the only acceptable answer. |

I was like you zester, used 7 forever finally broke down and started on cs4. I could not believe the difference, felt allot better for me and was not a hard transition at all.

Supremely stable, fast, new tools that 7 doesn't have (if you want a comparison featurelist, google is your friend), and support from Adobe for the up to date software. I think it's better to have CS4 than 7 by far.

pisses me off that you can't open an animated gif in CS3 and the only way to do so is by "Import"

enhancments are pretty trivial, for doing simple stuff, like banners or cropping thumbs cs4 won't really be any better...

I use CS2. Tried CS3 and it didn't worth the upgrading fee at all. Tried CS4 and it's worthy of upgrading, but I don't like the new workspace layout, pretty annoying and uncomfortable (at least for me). Besides, I can do everything I want with CS2, so why bother paying?
This being said, I agree CS4 makes a real difference in speed when running on Mac, and if only I had the chance to use the old style workspace AND have ImageReady, then I'd upgrade without even think about it ![]()
