I had a lot more respect for the movie until I was reminded of Pocahontas... But the graphics were amazing still.

I never saw Pocahontas, Running with Wolves, The Last Samari, or any of the other movies people draw parallel story lines with, so who knows.

Avatar includes colorful graphics, an alien planet, a decent story that may or may not be 100% original, and cutting edge 3D.

I think it is unique enough to be judged on its own.

I see it maybe around 2.6 billion if not more, depending on how long it will be out in theaters. Still though, it is much more impressive than what Titanic did, especially if you figure in $13 per ticket where you still get repeat customers, piracy that didn't exist during Titanic, and Titanic being in theaters for around 7 months while Avatar might be in for 3 at the most.

I'm surprised Forrest Gump isn't higher up on the list.

The list is about profit though, so as recent movies make the most money, the list will always likely lean towards current flicks.

Sort of like sports figures... you had great players in the 70's and 80's for example, but today's player salaries blow the older guys numbers away.

goodgirl and I went to see it the other night at the local IMAX theater in IN. I could care less about the story line. The graphics were cool enough that I would go see it again and I have not done that since 1969.

The Special Effects And Graphics are worth the money to see it. Same story has been told countless times. It happens, Camron has been thinking about this story for 15 years and it worked out quite well for him. Its worth it to watch in theaters and def buy on blu-ray

Still haven't bothered to go see it.

Will probably end up just catching it on dvd or something. Never in the mood to go to the cinema anymore...

Would you still be able to see the 3D effects on a current HD TV if you wear the glasses?

If not, I don't see it selling well for home viewing. It wouldn't make much sense to me either.

To be honest, I don't know. I always presumed that the IMAX 3D screen was different than a standard screen (other than the size). I know the 3D glasses they gave us were different than any I have used before.

Next year the box office record will be beaten again.

I just came from seeing Sherlock Holmes. Now that's a good movie!

Good thing James Cameron didn't get a big name actor in this who could get a % of box office receipts! Kinda like how Chris Tucker ended up with over 50 million for Rush Hour 3. Damn.

Sounds like two "milkquels" (yes I just made that up) are planned for this, which will suck terribly but make them loads of money.

The IMAX 3D glasses are different than the regular theater 3D glasses.

I saw it at a regular theater, but still in 3D.

I'm wondering if the upcoming DVD, played on a home theater flat screen, can still offer 3D if you wear the correct glasses at home.

Anyone know?

It will take a special type of TV. The BluRay/LCD 3D spec has been approved by all the electronics companies. 2D home flat screens are already ramping up the assembly lines. CES had dozens of demo production models already. Next year all the majors will have full 3D flat screens and the glasses will be polarized type.

Thanks for the feedback. Were there any 3D camcorders at the show as well? How far off are the 3D computer monitors?
