Starting a mainstream blog host - GoFuckYourself.com

After starting a free porn blog hosting http://pornblogs.com/ a couple weeks ago I am thinking about launching a mainstream blog host. We don't have much experience with the mainstream part of the online business and I would like you guys to share some thoughts. Is anybody using mainstream blog hosts? What is the stuff that you would like to have different on them? Please share some experiences and information regarding blog hosts and the mainstream business overall.

We would like to build a platform that benefits all sides, the surfer who browses the blogs and the webmasters who use the blog host.

What would make your service better than blogspot or blogger or any of the bigger competitors? It seems a pretty tough game especially without much experience.

I have one of my mainstream sites which uses wordpress and one of the main problems I had with the host was the data base We had to put code in the httacces because it was not updating the database correctly becuase of mod rewrite security issues apparently.

So I would think one of the main things for me would be to have a decent data base that dosent slow wordpress down and dosent cause problems

This shouldn't be a problem, our server admins have a lot of experience with high traffic sites

failure should be used as a tool to gain knowledge if you arent gaining knowledge outside of learning that you cannot compete (which you should know in the firstplace) you are in reality learning nothing.

This project is still the planning and brainstorming phase, we can and will be different in some parts and I do not expect to make it bigger than blogger but getting it up as part of some additional projects which can be platforms for many other stuff is a good thing in my opinion. Google wasn?t the first search engine and the iPod wasn?t the first MP3 player?.

If everybody would be thinking like you it would be the end of all innovations. I remember when the Pichunter owner was posting that he makes a $1 a month and everybody was laughing at him that he started a TGP at that time, look where he is now and where are the people that have been laughing at him at that time?

But I really appreciate your comments and it helps to see this and all other projects from all sides.

Not a bad idea to start it now, even though it's not a new idea...

Most mainstream blog services I know, shut down after some months, so if you are able to keep it live at least 1 year and work on it and not expect any considerable return during that time, you are good to go. Only a few can pass that period.

Blogger and Wordpress are good, however both have pros and cons, you can spend 1 hour on each of them and you will soon find out their cons and pros.

I am not kicking you in the nuts on your idea. I think there are many ways to monitze it. However, I think you are going to have to spend a lot of money to crack the market if you do not have a segment you deal with or target.

Brief example to exemplify the point:

On my modeling site project... if I did not have access to a TON of models, this would be a fool's errand.

Fortunately for me, I have so many people in my college town looking for work. It actually makes sense for me to build something for model management for myself and company, but finding a creative way to (long term) monetize the profiles, and database.

The point being, I already have a target audience and market. So the idea will be a success in the short term as it solves my immediate issue. But long term will grow and I will be able to monetize the overflow.

Same thing with doing the hosting to pair with my consulting, and helping new girls and start ups. I already have people who are looking for these services and pay for my consulting who, right now, I have to refer to other hosts, registrars, and operations. With my own, I can actually keep everything in-house and maximize revenue for me.

Again, I already have a marketplace developed. So I am just plugging in a better solution for the short and longer term where I can keep the money for myself, versus always having to refer these people to this registrar for that, and this hosting company for something else, and what not.

Hopefully that paints a better picture for you. Anyway, good luck hoss.
