It depends on which one you buy but this one is an older Flextone II XL 100 watt combo (50X2) that I could play just about any gig (live or studio) with and it would sound great.

Some guys are "tone purists" so they insist that any amp that doesn't use use tubes is junk and for a great majority of amps I would agree with them. The higher end Line 6 amps, like this one (although it's old), were (and are) state of the art in software modeling of guitar tones and effects.

Are they better than amps that cost 2-3 times as much? That depends on who you ask... but it seems to me that if I am paying $1000-1500 for an amplifier... does it really pay for itself in terms of tonal quality vs investment?

I have owned some of the best amplifiers made and I like the flextone series of amps (and the new Bogner designed amps) because they deliver year after year with gusto. I never have to worry about humidity changing my tone like in a tube amp, I DO cut through the mix if I make sure not to muddy the mix with too much bass or too much treble.

What I like most about it is that Guitar Center hires people to make decisions that don't have a clue about the equipment... so when they took this one on trade they priced it at $150 INCLUDING the floorboard controller (here is one used on CL for $500). I bought it and sold the hand soldered Lee Jackson 1989 Metaltronix M-1000 100W head for 4 times what I paid for it and used the difference to pay for this guitar along with trading 2 other guitars (PRS CE-24 and a Schecter Blackjack). What I got in return is pretty much all of the effects I would ever need, pretty much any amp sound I would ever need, free recording software (Line 6 POD Farm), a ton of lessons online for just about any level guitar player including how to set the amp exactly to get the sound for the song, a VERY loud guitar amp and almost branding spanking new controller.

It's aged Zebrawood on the top... the body is made from 150 year old Alder and Mahogany. The fretboard is African Ebony, I believe.

You can see the serial number on the 24th fret "KZ6" for Knight Zebra #6

The guitar looks nice. The only thing I would worry with Line 6 is that you have to spend quite a lot of time tweaking your sounds etc. I have simple tube amp and all these electronic amps seem so complicated...

Once you have "tweaked" the sound you want you can save it to a channel... so then to recall it all I have to do is go to that bank (1-32) and then I have four channels on that bank... most of the time I only use 4 at the most anyway. On the newer models you can even shut off effects or turn on reverb or the distortion just like using 4-5 pedals.

The body and neck are one piece? Very nice. The top wood looks great too.

I play a Fender SRV Strat on a Fender Custom Shop '65 Twin Reverb. I know you don't like Fenders but some of us need that fat warm tone... plus an Ibanez tube screamer foot pedal for overdrive.

That is a BEAUTIFUL guitar! Love the wood. Looks like a nice combo of vintage and modern style. similar to PRS. Does it play as good as it looks?

As for LINE 6 - They have come a long way and have some great sounds. I have had PODS and small combos by them. Now have the LINE 6 Bogner Spider model with Tubes and it is one amazing amp. Thanks again for the pics.

If you rip out the crappy digital pre-amp and replace it with a russian tube pre-amp, you'll discover how good that amp really can sound and you'll think, "damn this sounded like shit before."

Search google for svpre or strymon mod.

Who said I don't like Fenders? I have a Strat. It's made in Mexico but it's a sweet guitar and I put a loaded pickguard in it with Texas Specials and a (DH?) humbucker from a H/S/S American Made and Sperzel Locking Tuners.

It has unreal sustain... I am not really big on the X2N's because they just don't have enough butter... they are very scooped sounding (All lows and highs). I have to crank the mid on the amp to get it to cut. I think I am going to put a Seymour Duncan JB at the bridge and a '59 at the neck.

The funny thing about guitars is that their value is determined by the market just like real estate... right now is a buyers market.

Here are a couple on ebay for about half what they sell for new.

I love my guitar Gibson Les Paul Standard 1989, with Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups ... I play into a 100 Watt Marshall DSL100 All tube head and a custom 4x12" cab with 75Watt Celestions. Sounds lush

You have a great looking guitar there. Mine's beaten to shit as it's 21 years old and tons of belt wear etc! But I love it that way Aged! :D

Line 6 has some great pre-amps; I actually use a Line 6 TonePort UX2 for my audio recording and I like it a lot. As far as cabs go, the sound is a little more smooth than a classic crunch that you get from Marshall. I feel the Line 6 cabs/amps are a bit overpriced too.

If you have a POD or something like that (I have a TonePort UX2 that I got at a pawn shop for $50) you can use POD Farm which works great. http://line6.com/store/podfarm

Only problem with amp modeling is that you cant get tube sag from it. Which is why outdated tube technology is still desirable in amps today.

You might be surprised to find out that some of the guitar music you hear on CDs these days are recorded using guitar modeling on the back of the tour bus. I have been on quite a few tour buses that had a complete pro tools studio in them (Dope pretty much records all of their songs like this). Usually, they record the guitar with 2 tracks... 1 clean and one with the effects and everything for writing purposes... later they apply modeling effects to the clean signal during production. Most of the time people only use those amps live... I am not saying it goes like this for everyone... I am just saying that recording a live amp with mics is not how everyone does it anymore.
