Anyone work for, own or know a car dealership?
Mostly every dealership has this "feed" similar to the MLS for real estate that they use to manage their inventory.
I'm working on a side project, but need to get some info on this feed, such as field names, how often it updates, etc. So if anyone works for, owns or has a connection to a car dealership and this dealer feed, please hit me up... I will offer a reward ![]()

I think if you just walk in and talk to one of the managers there, you'll probably get a lot more information. One of the reasons they work at a sales establishment is because they like to talk. 2cents

The 'feed' is probably several different things.
New car dealerships have a 'pipeline' that comes from the manufacturer, it shows order status, build status at the plant, shipping status, railhead status and delivery status for all new car inventory. When a vehicle ships from the factory the invoice and the MSO are sent to the dealership, this arrives before the actual vehicle allowing the internal DB at the dealership be updated by the 'title clerk' and have the car 'stocked in' when it comes off the transport truck. This is the 'incoming inventory' list Used car inventory is entered into the dealer database by a back office clerk when the vehicles are traded for or when the paperwork comes from the auction that the used car buyer or used car manager attended. |

no one at the dealership has software level database knowledge of this system. There is not a single person there who would be able to give you field names, etc. Dealership employees see this system as data management, nothing else.
There are two very large companies who provide and maintain this integrated dealership management software, on is Reynolds and Reynolds. Franchise dealers pay 10s of thousands of dollars a year for this software and support. If you are trying to make a plug in, I suggest you try to get in touch with an ex Reynolds and Reynolds employee. |
