how big is the adult industry?

How much is the online adult industry worth?

google isn't helping and I'm getting pages like microsoft for 'adult industry growth chart'. I might get better answers here.

If anybody can point to any sources for what it's worth now, what it will be worth in the future and maybe some insight in how it's grown since the early 90s would help me. I'm writing an article comparison the adult industry versus the gaming industry and commenting on the Barcelona Summit.

Any comments or info is appreciated

I'm guessing in the past 2 years things have dipped a little with less conversions and more tube sites. I get the impression there will be another rise coming from the mobile side of things but curious to hear some numbers. I've seen a few articles that pegs adult as being 1 billion in revenue but not sure what that amounts to in profits or if this figure is even correct.

I don't think anyone really knows, it amazes me almost weekly that we will get merchants that approach us to add EU DirectDebit to their cascade that I've never heard of and then learn they are doing tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands in monthly processing.

If you mean the whole industry, then this would include, swingers, free cam services, tubes & pretty much everything that asks for over 18. This could even include gambling, casino etc.
I think it can only get bigger as more & more adults are being included in a very open entertainment. It also has many more older people, like over 50s that wish to enjoy themselves in the online and adult theme with swing clubs, nudist beaches & much more.

I wouldn't want to put a figure on it, but I bet it's into the trillions.

Oops. I just read you had said "online". This maybe not so much but obviously still involves the swingers & people that do not pay, therefore its still including advertising earnings. So still a bloody lot lol!

As far as porn consumers goes it's on the increase all the time. As far as porn revenue is concerned it's on the decline. So much free stuff online.

It was never as big as claimed in the 'lore' of media.

In the past two years I would bet cash money this industry on the whole (including small fries, middle class affiliates, and BROgrams) has shrunk at minimum 35-40%. Including full and part timers.

I think that the honest number of loss the adult online over the past 24 months is probably closer to a 60%.... With those people having now gone mainstream/retired/sold out/super sizing fries.

regardless of the economy it is 1-2% of total online revenue. thats a sure mark you can follow every year as mainstream grows. mainstream revenue is easy to follow. just base your shit on that. adult is a tiny sliver of a pussy hair compared to all online sales.

just to add more to the thread to bump

Online gaming/gambling is worth about 15 billion / year in profit at the moment with more room to grow especially in europe, south america and asia. Mobile gaming has been slow to grow just like adult but is now getting off the ground.

http://www.economywatch.com/world-in...-industry.html

Mentions the industry is worth 20 to 50 billion in revenue right now

Another article that discusses some older figures:

http://www.forbes.com/2001/05/25/0524porn.htmlso maybe 50B in revenue and 1-4B in profits?

Has any company or site written articles on the subject?

So far I have these articles which just seem to spit out numbers:

http://www.forbes.com/2001/05/25/0524porn.html

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...ng.aspx?page=2

The second article seems to have a few more numbers.

It's worth billions of dollars, but no one really knows for sure, because companies that are not publicly owned are not obligated to report their earnings.
