Calif. voters could legalize pot in Nov. election

People 21 and older can possess up to 1 ounce of pot.
You would be allowed a 25 sq. ft. pot garden.

Will it pass? If the people promoting it are smart, yes! The key is not to push this as it should be legal to smoke pot as it is not as dangerous as alcohol, blah, blah, blah, like is always said. It needs to pushed as an economic way to raise revenue for the state.

Don't hold your breath. Orange County is full of Jesus Freaks who will stop at nothing to keep it illegal. If they wouldn't allow gay marriage in CA, they sure as hell aren't going to allow pot. The bible thumpers would rather cut Public Education, which they see as pro-liberal, pro-evolution.

PS - they should also legalize and tax prostitution. The thumpers won't allow that either though, I'm afraid. It even failed MISERABLY in SF!

I certainly hope this happens. It would be a great example for the rest of the US on how substances are easier to control when they are legal. Prohibition doesn't work. You can NOT repeal the laws of supply and demand. Any high school student will tell you it's easier to buy a bag of weed than it is alcohol...

Legalization and taxation is definitely the way to go!

I agree 100%. I think weed should be legal and taxed.

Even if it passes it would still be against Federal law which trumps state law.

Here in Oregon we have medical marijuana. We had a to fight two separate court battles with the Bush administration so that the voter passed measure would allow it. After the court victories the state was told by then AG Ashcroft that since pot was still illegal on a federal level they could still go after growers and sellers. Since then there has been raids, but they are nothing more than a waste of tax dollars because in each case the feds raid a medical marijuana grow or sell operation and seize the pot, but they don't charge anyone with a crime.

If Cali fully legalizes pot, I wouldn't be shocked to see some of the same.

Ya know, there's one thing about it being for 'medicinal use'.

Look in 'High Times', not a single one of them looks like a boring pharmacy - it's just a goddamn bar or a bakery with weed shit. Make it as boring as taking prozac, and I'll consider it.

Think about it realistically. Would people who grow and sell pot report their income for income tax purposes? What if they forget to report income due to the short term memory loss that weed causes? Even a guy working a hot dog stand does not report all of his income, because he wants to pay less taxes. Weed people (who could have more criminal inclinations) are even less likely to report this income. But, with the legalization, of course more income would be reported.

The taxes would come form the sale of weed which will be controlled I am sure. The weed farmer is more than likely not going to be able to sell weed retail.

Venice Beach has "pharmacies" on par with whats going on in Amsterdam, you can buy some buds(or hash) and smoke right there on the premises.

F the Fed, they need to respect states rights!

Short term memory loss from pot is a myth. Do a few searches on it and you will see what I mean.

Anyway would be a huge cash crop for Cali if it happens, other states could follow and someday federal law might catch up. Really no reason for it to be illegal in the first place other then to fill prisons.

This is not always true...

"It's now settled that state law enforcement officers cannot arrest medical marijuana patients or seize their medicine simply because they prefer the contrary federal law," said Joe Elford, Chief Counsel with Americans for Safe Access (ASA), the medical marijuana advocacy organization that represented the defendant Felix Kha in a case that the City of Garden Grove appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. "Perhaps, in the future local government will think twice about expending significant time and resources to defy a law that is overwhelmingly supported by the people of our state."

You realize that Orange county has 2.5 million people that have a shitload of cash right?

Gay Marriage shouldn't be allowed anyway. The state itself has rejected it twice on ballots.

You probably are pro obamacare cause you make less then 250k a year right?

Although Weed should be legal like Alcohol.
