Don't get unwanted pregnant in Nebraska

Republican Gov. Dave Heineman signed both bills, one barring abortions at and after 20 weeks of pregnancy and the other requiring women to be screened before having abortions for mental health and other problems. Both sides of the abortion debate say the laws are firsts of their kind in the U.S.

I wonder how the US Supreme Court would decide the constitutionality of this statute...

Some States are very backward. They even cling onto the idea God created the world. LOL

Might run smack against the US Supreme Court's decision in Casey v Planned Parenthood. The old trimester-based limits of Roe v Wade is out.

isn't 20 weeks quite enough time to realise you're pregnant?

I have a real problem with abortions of babies that could actually live outside the womb. Especially when they are literally half born when the abortion doc is vacuuming out it's brain. They should just let the baby be born early rather than kill it.

I don't think a baby can live at 20 weeks, but a couple more weeks and it is possible.

20 weeks is already too late for an abortion. Thats when you can already tell if its a boy or a girl!

In lots of cases, no. Either women who are very overweight and didn't notice the weight gain, or women who only gained about ten pounds. Many have sworn on the lives of the new child that they didn't know until the baby came out right smack in the middle of whatever they were doing.

It's their (statutory) answer to the question asked by Supreme Court precedent--when is the fetus' life "viable".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned...rality_opinion

Quote:
The plurality then overturned the strict trimester formula used in Roe to weigh the woman's interest in obtaining an abortion against the State's interest in the life of the fetus. Continuing advancements in medical technology meant that at the time Casey was decided, a fetus might be considered viable at 22 or 23 weeks rather than at the 28 weeks that was more common at the time of Roe. The plurality recognized viability as the point at which the state interest in the life of the fetus outweighs the rights of the woman and abortion may be banned entirely "except where it is necessary, in appropriate medical judgment, for the preservation of the life or health of the mother".

The plurality also replaced the heightened scrutiny of abortion regulations under Roe, which was standard for fundamental rights in the Court's case law, with a lesser "undue burden" standard previously developed by O'Connor in her dissent in Akron v. Akron Center for Reproductive Health.[3] A legal restriction posing an undue burden was defined as one having "the purpose or effect of placing a substantial obstacle in the path of a woman seeking an abortion of a nonviable fetus." The plurality also overruled Akron v. Akron Center for Reproductive Health, 462 U.S. 416 (1983) and Thornburgh v. American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 476 U.S. 747 (1986),[4] each of which applied "strict scrutiny" to abortion restrictions.[5]

How about the concept of the slut whores just making sure they don't get prego in the first place so the baby does not have to be sucked out like a clump of dirt?

I like how you shift the blame entirely onto women.
