I buy and sell (buy lots more) domains on gfy and its a pretty good market for good domains but many guys want way too much for mediocre domains.

First off, by broker I think you meant domain seller or reseller...domain brokers sell domains that other people own vs. domains they themselves own.

Having said that, I've done both selling and brokering on GFY and have overall done about $100k worth of domain sales here, with adult being a small fraction of what I own. I make my living selling domains.

Regarding the whole HD/3D type of domains, I can say hot trends like those are verrry hard to get good domains in. One of the things I do is drill through expired domains w/ particular keywords to find the best of them to get, and even most of the good 3D names let alone HD names were taken long ago. 3D isn't exactly a new concept.

What you see with these hot trends is about 99% garbage domains being registered by people that think they can be part of the "gold rush" on those domains, not realizing the gold rush on them came and went. the same sort of thing happens with new extensions like .me too.

That's why I myself am usually going after terms that have been around forever and will continue to be and generally on the main 3 exts com/net/org for the same reason. Mainstreamwise stuff I get a lot of is mortgage, loan, insurance, law, real estate, health terms, terms used a lot in company names like group and media, short brandable domains (popularized by social media but Google/Yahoo etc. have been harnessing these for a long time), etc.

Even as a domain reseller, I sometimes buy domains from other people, simply because the BEST domains are always going to be ones that are taken, and sometimes they're not as high-priced as you might think. BustyLesbians.com was one of those cases and I just sold it about a week ago.

PornMD is right. Domaining will never go away. Indeed, it's spawned lucrative subindustries of domain trend outsourced research, domain research software, etc etc.

Bottomline, it's all about the core model of any business: buy low, sell high.

That depends. I try not to sell domains at those prices but sometimes you have to actually sell them too and if It comes down to 50 bucks It's better than a loss.

Now day's when I reg domains I prefer ones that I will use my self if they are not a "sure sell". I put them out for sale and if no one bites I use It myself.

Almost every domain I own was hand registered or an expired pick up from 1999 to today. I have sold quite a few in the 1-10k range. It's not about selling a million dollar domain it's about selling a $7 investment for 100-1000+ times what ya paid for it and reinvesting the profits, fast forward years later and all those sales have been reinvested into even stronger domains and development. Lot of competition these days so not as easy to pick gems up cheap but I still hand register a few here and there but most come from expired drop lists. My adult portfolio is small but on the mainstream business side I probably have a suitable domain for sale for almost any type of business.

I agree......its still possible to hand register decent domains and flip them for a return on investment that beats property, shares etc.

at the beginning only top ones will count like for example 3dporn.com, 3dsex.com 3dtits.com...

Yes but try getting HDfeeds or 3Dfeeds etc and ususally you will find its with a broker or gone.

Dropped and hand regs will always be available but its hard to find really good premium 1 and 2 word ones .

Brokers are like share traders ..they buy/sell/speculate and ususally carry a range they have invested in ..some will be winners and some domains will be losers.

Last week Michael Berkens sold the domain names NoStrings.com and NoStringsAttached.com for a combined $75,000 at Sedo. The Buyer was FriendFinder Networks..owners of cams.com etc....

Nice price the seller got for those 2 I think.

Ah, now that you've clarified, I'm pretty much in full agreement. Some people only ever sell domains in that range and I find it amazing that anyone could keep a business going w/ doing that. Fees for the online payments, taxes, etc. let alone time spent to complete transactions. I have on a couple occasions sold domains in that range but it was more generally to unload inventory I wasn't looking to renew anyways. I know some sales threads here are probably the same thing, but a lot of them aren't.

I rarely ever go below $100 or even below $200 with my domains let alone to $10-$50. I don't mind having to hold onto some domains for years if I'm consistently selling a dozen or more domains per week in the $200 - $5,000 range. Renewal fees on over 2,000 domains suck, but better than spending what can sometimes take half an hour or more to complete a transaction where I'd only make $20 profit if that. I think some people don't understand how they're limiting the value of their time with doing that. Yes you reach a bigger market with lower prices since domainers might buy them too, but even with the price range I put my names in, a good portion of my business is to domainers.

a $50 is about a good 5x on your money, slinging a few halfassed $xx domains on the side can be a good way for guys slugging it out to put a few bucks in their pocket without any real effort while working on other things.

I agree , plus it gives you that initial contact so that a business relationship may develop..leading to bigger sales.

For me it takes 5 minutes to process a domain sale whatever the cost.. $50 - $50,000 so a sale is a sale....(just more or less profit! )
