How do you keep track of your finances?

One of my new years resolutions was to keep a better track of my finances. I decided that I should get started with that.

I was looking at the online personal finance sites like Mint and Wesabe.
I like wesabe because if I receive a sponsor payment I can add a tag with the sponsor name, or if I buy a domain I can add the domain name in notes.

What Im basically looking for, is a way to keep track of how much Im spending on domains, hosting, content, etc. as well as keeping track of sponsor payments.

Anyone use any of these online personal finance tools or any other tool they recommend?

I used MS Money some time ago, and found it was good, but its lacking in some of the new features some of these online sites have, like tagging and basically being able to access the info from any computer.

QuickBooks. Then I do a print out and turn over to CPA.

This last year was crazy, and kinda had gotten away from me. Normally I would make time every week to input all payments, and checks. It gets crazy doing it after a couple of months, and a stack of receipts for half a day.

Here is a tip: memorize all your transactions that you make. That way, you do not have to look at paper or other electronic records. You will save time.

Im actually more interested in just keeping record of expenses and income so I can get an idea of how much Im spending on hosting, domains, etc. as well as payments from sponsors.

I tried texthog.com and its really nice, because I can divide everything by categories and they have charts, etc. But I can only use that for expenses, not for incomes.

I would like to be able at the end of the year , to know which sponsor paid me the most money and also how much I spent and where that money went.

I use to do it by hand/spread sheets. But I just downloaded Ace Money Lite (it is free) and am loving it. Easily breaks down revenue from traffic sources, expenses by source ect.

I tried a few things, including Quickbooks. But in the end, I found that a spreadsheet tailored to my needs works better than anything for me. I use that method for tracking both mainstream and adult income/expenses.

Thank you. Sometimes you can learn a phone number just by repeating it 10 times to yourself. Same with financial transactions.

Thanks everyone for their input. Ill have to try your solutions and see what fits me best.

Sometimes the simplest things work best, like excel, but I was just playing with Wesabe and so far Im really liking it.

Simple excel spread sheet works fine. Just as important as keeping track of your income is also keeping track of your expenses, and what you do with the rest of the money left over. See sig links.

your stupid posts just got more stupid. It takes longer to try to memorize numbers than it is to simply write it down and there is no way you brain is going to remember every amount of every check and date that you receive.
