What's the average life of a linux server?

One of my dedicated servers is 7 years old that is online since 2004. It hosts 150 domains and has heavy IO with load average 1.20+.

Sites are loading fine and the server never went down for hardware failure yet. But eventually it will die one day and I want to make it retired before it die. So I can avoid disaster..
What do you think how many years a linux server can be online 24/7?

Power supply will go out at some point, I'd dump it now though.

It's had a great run.

I'd be more afraid of hard drive failure... I have trust issues with hard drives.

I migrated slowly to a new machine...One domain at a time.

I still have a server from 1999 that still serves galleries.

I would say that you should get a new machine. Every year they get more and more powerful with technology moving forward. New servers are much faster and have a lot more juice to them.

Of course when you finally do make the move you're gonna have to make sure to get it tweaked out just right. You probably have your machine humming along at max efficiency and when you change it you're gonna have to go back in and do tweaks to it that you've probably forgot you did in the first place.

Dunno what to do in your situation, but it'd be a cool story to let it run until it dies, provided you have a quick fail over. Sounds like the box enjoys what it's doing. :-)

i just retired a box that old i was moving datacenters tho.

if it works fine dont touch it when it comes to hardware failure older does not mean more prone to fail.

7 years ago shit was built better then it is nowdays

7 years is crazy. I hope they have lowered your prices as the years have gone on.
