It sounds bad. The oil is doing some damage to rocks and birds and animals.

The birds that land in the oiled water get completely covered in oil and they die faster because of that. Oil has a property of staying above the water level and oil does not mix with water. Oil does not dissolve in water.

It's a fucking travesty what we do to ourselves...

This is going to impact us way above and beyond what we perceive. It's obvious that offshore drilling is not something we are capable of handling. Personally, I think there are so many better forms of fuels, and energy producing materials. Drilling for oil and continuing to utilize it as our main source of power is barbaric and antiquated.

If half of what he was reading is true, it is a very serious situation that could have greater implications than they would ever admit publicly. It is almost a situation of the best idea is to begin drilling [properly] from positions opposite the existing pipe. They are never going to be able to cap these and to let it drain would kill us.

BP Says Oil Spill Is 'Drop In The Ocean' - but conceded it could cost him his job.

The boss of BP has said the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is relatively tiny compared with the size of the ocean - but conceded it could cost him his job.

It dosent matter that people were killed and sealife is being fucked up ..he is only going to loose his job ..what a fucking prick

BP are pricks in general for trying to get us to believe only 5k barrels a day are coming out of that motherfuck. It's gotta be much more than that.

Has he ever met a third generation Louisiana fisherman about to lose everything? I'd be worried about more than my job.

I was born in st. bernard parish where the oil is washing ashore. Its very profitable living in an oil area!

So far I've gotten a 700 dollar check from the Katrina Oil Spill Disaster, another 700 bucks from an explosion at the refinery, another 700 bucks from another explosion that happened. I also have a court date in July from the time in 1998 when they accidently put gas in the tapwater! That'll be another 1000 this summer! Who knows what we'll get for this huge disaster! 700-1000??? probably less!

So come on down if you want to make some cash on the side!

Well, I thought about that too, but we don't really know all the shores it may hit. I don't know how many man made islands there are out there like Galveston. Is it inconceivable that the spill would hit TX?

Those oil CEO's are very well protected. I used to work in a building where Texaco had a corporate support office that the CEO would visit every few months.

It seemed like he had better security than the President. There was an advance team, they shut down the floor (Texaco only had 2 or 3 floors of the high rise) the CEO would be on and they took other measures.

Over the past few days I finally began to realize why oil executives are so hated.

They used to have to worry about environmentalists. Now they have to worry about people that are losing the livelihood.

It's just sad how much this is affecting the local wildlife and the fisherman, off course it's not going to be something that just gets cleaned up over the weekend it will take months on end, if not years.

They show the broken pipe with no reference to its size. That think is big enough to show a beer keg in it and still have room around the sides

noway is only 5000 gallons a day coming out! in the 30 seconds of film they show I bet a 50 to 100 gallons come out

Wasn't it 5000 barrels/day, which is equivalent to 210000 gallons that was originally estimated.

By your estimates that's only what, 288000 gallons/day from that pipe???

Still, I know what you mean

BP originally estimated up to 1,000 barrels (42,000 US gal) a day was leaking from the wellhead. On April 28, NOAA said that the rate was probably five times that initially estimated by BP, i.e. 5,000 barrels (210,000 US gal).
John Amos, a geologist who has worked as a consultant with oil companies on measuring oil spills, said that figure is the “extremely low end” of their estimates, putting a more realistic figure at 20,000 barrels a day.
Other sources using satellite imagery have put that number as high as 25,000 barrels (1,100,000 US gal) a day
