Arizona Utilities Rep Invites LA to Continue Boycott on Arizona & Watch Their Lights Go Out

I hope we turn the lights out on LA and see what they have to say about their boycott against Arizona.

Dear Mayor Villaraigosa,

I was dismayed to learn that the Los Angeles City Council voted to boycott Arizona and Arizona-based companies ? a vote you strongly supported ? to show opposition to SB 1070 (Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act).

You explained your support of the boycott as follows: ?While we recognize that as neighbors, we share resources and ties with the State of Arizona that may be difficult to sever, our goal is not to hurt the local economy of Los Angeles, but toimpact the economy of Arizona. Our intent is to use our dollars ? or the withholding of our dollars ? to send a message.? (emphasis added)

I received your message; please receive mine. As a state-wide elected member of the Arizona Corporation Commission overseeing Arizona?s electric and water utilities, I too am keenly aware of the ?resources and ties? we share with the City of Los Angeles.

Rest of the story here:

Who said anything about step and fetch it, maybe you should have read the article. This is only the beginning and we are not going to get over it, maybe you should.

Yep, I agree, we should discontinue giving the portion of our Colorado River allocation to a state that can't seem to get its own issues in order and besides, wouldn't it be hypocritical to receive anything from us beings we are such horrible people?

I have a feeling this is going to get very interesting. The damage is already done by LA with the their calling for a boycott of AZ and we need to be tough while we serve them a lightly heated pile of shit on a paper plate

This boycott is BS and this statement was an excellent closer in that letter:

"A state-wide economic boycott of Arizona is not a message sent in goodwill."

yeah, and watch California stop selling gas to Arizona.

All gas into Arizona is pumped in through one gas line and one gas line only. When that line breaks, Arizona is fucked in the asshole. I remember when it broke down. Within a day gas stations had shut down, and within a week people couldn't drive to work because they had no gas. They physically couldn't truck enough gas into Phoenix to keep us moving.

Odd if you think about it - if gas stations sell different brands of gas, why is it all shipped in one pipe?

Oil and water do not mix.

I find it laughable that anyone thinks AZ can have some sort of financial control/power over CA

Phoenix gets its gas from Cali, and it also gets it through the El Paso line which comes up through Tucson - which Tucson is currently suing for eco/safety violations. The Tucson line is the faster pipe... the State also gets gas trucked in from just about every neighboring state and Texas.

Where does Arizona get its gasoline?

The state gets its fuel from two pipelines, one originating in Southern California, which moves through Yuma and terminates in Phoenix. A second pipeline begins in El Paso, moves through Tucson and also ends in Phoenix. Some additional fuel is trucked into the state from New Mexico, Nevada and California. It takes a gallon of gasoline seven days to reach the state through the Southern California pipeline, and six days to get here through the pipeline from Texas. While there is talk of building a refinery in southwestern Arizona, the status of the facility remains unclear at this time.

I find it laughable that you think your state can control /has power over Arizona.
Instead of worrying about how we run our state, maybe the idiots running your state should get their own house in order before criticizing us ;)

I truly hope that the representatives of Arizona get tough and follow through with what they have threatened to do, cut off the power we provide..... And we should cut off the water source we give Cali from our Colorado River allocation too.
I assume you would still find that laughable? We shall see who is laughing if Arizona follows through.

California has already done damage by their boycott and now it is time to show them the they will not control us and a price must be paid for their actions

Interesting, California has the same law that they are boycotting Arizona for:

Section 834b in the California Penal Code:

(a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws. (b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following: (1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status. (2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or leave the United States. (3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal status and provide any additional information that may be requested by any other public entity. (c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city, county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly prohibited.

It makes you wonder what is the real motive for Cali to boycott us when they have a law like ours.

I believe it's commonplace to send something called a pig down a pipeline to separate materials. You could ship different kinds of gas.

You need to double check your facts since this is not at all correct. Most of our gas comes from a SECOND pipeline originating in El Paso, Texas.

Another interesting fact, Arizona is the largest mining state for copper. Anyone boycotting copper?

are arizonians cool with losing 25% of outside state sales revenues? because that's what the threat is, california is a customer accounting for 100s of millions of dollars in annual sales. it's not like we'd simply go with out that electricity. if we have to buy it from elsewhere, we will. the loser is arizona.

the whole thing is pretty fucking silly.

It doesn't make me wonder at all. It's political posturing. The city Council obviously has a lot of Hispanic voters that they need to keep happy. By making such a gesture, they "show" these voters that they are willing to stand up to the evil Mexican haters.

The whole thing is dumb, from every end of the spectrum. Those refusing to think about the issues Arizona is having are just naïve.

It's the City not allowed to do business with us, not Cali... the people/companies in Cali, are still going to do business with AZ.

Boycotts historically do not actually have economic damaging effects.

the letter is a threat to cut power from arizona to l.a. written by one of the commissioners of the arizona utility regulation panel.

i simply figured 25% of socal electricity = the same ration to l.a., 25%.

while my rev # is a guess, the point is valid. threatening to cut off a customer as large as us is beyond ridiculous. ESPECIALLY when it's a policy maker making the threat.

fact is, arizona loses if they follow through on the threat and is just as silly as cali for engaging in the posturing.

And, this statement by the energy Board member from Arizona is the same thing. Nobody is going to do anything. Both of them pretty much needed to make the statements they did to appease the masses. Ah... politics...
