A surfers take on adult - Everyone discuss.

Last night I was shooting pool with two of my good friends, and one of them, knowing my involvement in adult, was telling me about how he prefers Youporn for his fap material. He then asked me - being someone that knows zero about this industry from an insiders perspective, "Costa, the whole porn industry has really gone down the shitter, hasn't it?"

When I asked him why, he replied that it simply must be so because the whole internet is flooded with tons of free porn and "not just clips, but whole movies", so he doesn't think anyone with a brain would go pay for it anymore.

Back in the days when porn was primarily consumed through printed material and video rentals, it was of course a different story.

Many of my friends who are not in adult share these same sentiments with me. Now I know a lot of this is tube related, but as program owners, affiliates, producers, what's the plan?

Programs are going tits up left and right, people and companies in adult are cannibalizing themselves and fucking anyone they can to make a dollar, so what gives? Demand will never allow for the industry to just not exist, but how are YOU gearing up to have yourself counted among the survivors of this crisis, and move forward with a creative and pioneering business model?

If you don't pay, you're flooded with ads. If you pay, you get a nice fap friendly environment.

Even though this is true, of all the surfers I've talked to, nobody complains about ads when all the pr0n is free.

I agree.....

Most young surfers now expect almost everything online to be "free" and easy to access and thats not going to change...

twitter...skype...facebook....email....tv shows....youtube......it goes on and on....when they see something they have to pay for they simply skip over it.

I really think it comes down to Niche content and having a hold over your niche. If you can become the leader in a specific niche and make sure it isnt an over saturated market you can succeed. Granted you arent going to get everyone in middle America to join but you can build a good business on loyal paying customers.

I post on a rather busy Ford Mustang board, and they all deny any of them pay for porn. However, I can toss up a single link to something like Twisties or Met Art and sure enough it's good for a sign up or two off of that board.

Porn still sells.

It's like I was telling my friend Sally just the other day...

If you are going to sell seashells, you may want to pick a better spot than down by the seashore.

That said, would you say "maintream" porn is fucked from a moneymaking standpoint?

That's definitely a good approach, but how do you apply it on a larger scale? Perhaps hiring board posters?

Yes, but what has changed is volume and accessibility.

A lot of people make it a point of pride to say they don't pay for porn. Only a stupid person would, as far as most guy are concerned.

They say this very thing on the Opie and Anthony show constantly, basically advertising on the radio that they steal.

Like I mentioned the other day in my thread, I picked up an old friend I hadn't seen in over 10 Years, I had never shared with him that I was in the Adult Biz, he lives out of state.

First thing he said was, "I heard you are in the Adult Business too", I said, Yes.
He said, that is amazing, with all the free porn out there, I didn't think anyone paid for it."

Another thing I remember.

About 13 years ago, we were getting our T3 Installed at our first Office. T3 was unheard of at the time, not too many people had it. We watched them dig up Ditches on the streets to bring it in. We had the first and only T3 in our city at the time. Then when the Tech was in our office he asked..."What do you guys do" I said, Sell Sex as a quick response, and I said, Sex Sells...and he said..."I know, I buy - I Buy"

I'll never forget his words.

A surfer who visits a porn site and views a stolen video is not stealing. The site who ripped off the video is. Surfers have no idea what sites are legit or not, they just google up free porn and watch porn on the sites that rank high in the SERP's.

However, a surfer who downloads proprietary software or content from a site, without the consent of the copyright owner, is stealing.

That's an important distinction.

It's not only your friends that say like that, all my friends use tube sites for jerking off as well... before the tubes they were using torrent sites or were buying porn dvds/magazines, they were exchanging porn cds/dvds between themselves, occasionally they were buying pornsites passes by sms method. Now they got it all free on the tube plates.

IMO very few surfers nowadays are 'stealing'.

With the widespread of high speed internet, most are flocking to tubes.

If you wanted to fap right now, would you go to a tube or go find a link to a porn flick and wait for the download to complete?

We don't need to get into the semantics of what is stealing...but that's BS. If I had a friend that worked at a theater, who would sneak me in for free, that doesn't mean I didn't commit a crime. You can't place all of the blame on the gatekeeper.
