Any advice on buying a new monitor?

My laptop screen got busted but the laptop is still good.
So I want to get a new monitor. Im between getting a 22" or a 24".

I just do basic website editing and basic gaming and photoshop. I dont need super clear graphics.

I saw an Acer X233w 22" and after rebate it was $139. It was ok but not that great.
then on the other side of the room they have HP's that are really nice but like $240s.

So my question is, did you get something basic to save money and you were fine with it, or did you go for the super nice one and glad you did?

I've bought 4 of those X223w's for my computers (2 each) and have absolutely no complaints, they are quality, you can get them anywhere (even walmart) and are affordable.

I just bought a LG 23inch, 1920 X 1080 resolution. Great picture quality and it looks really nice, a glossy black finish.

I would get something that has HDMI to keep your options open in the future. You'll notice on the cheapest monitors that they usually only ship with VGA and DVI.

30" is where it's at... it's one of those things though... once you get used to it, there's no way you ever want to down size :P I used to think two smaller monitor would be just as good... nope, definitely not, lol

I'd got for a refurbished 30" before I went for a 24" but that may just be me :P

I sit in front of my computer 70-80 hours a week. I have no problem spending a little money to make that experience easier/better. Anything that you spend a lot of time doing, you may as well go for quality and ease. Will make your life better.

With that said, I have a 20 inch HP and a 24 inch Dell. The HP has that glossy finish which I really like, but it does have quite the reflection. The Dell is the matte finish and I don't think it's as bright and crisp as the HP, but the reflection is minimal.

From now on I'll be buying 24 inch monitors only, might even try something larger. The additional workspace is amazing, really makes life easier. I would shell out the extra hundred dollars and go for 24 inch, there are some pretty inexpensive models out on the market right now... I think last week I saw one for $250.

3 x Viewsonic 24" widescreens at 1920x1080

Like others have suggested, go with the bigger monitors. If you wait a few more days, there should be plenty of Memorial Day sales. Buy from Dell or a reputable retailer with liberal return policies just in case you get a monitor with dead pixels. Dell will take returns on monitors with no questions asked as long as you return them in as new condition with all original packing, manuals and accessories.

As for basic monitors and stuff, try to get one with either build in speakers or with a speaker unit being able to attach underneath it. Dell has it for most of their monitors. Itäs just a very handy way of saving table space and dust collectors. As long as you don't have a huge stereo or are extremely picky with your music, those built in/attach beneth speakers will do just fine and will also help to not clutter your desktop/workspace.

And about size, well you know, bigger is always better.

I have 1 22" and a 24" I find that the 22" is better when sitting at arms reach of the screen 24" is a little big for field of view.

I have 24" Dell, it works fine. Bigger panel you'd need a bigger working table really as you need to move your chair back and arm extender to still have your keyoboard accessible. So 24 is about right, though 22 would work too. If you can buy 22 with 1920 resolution go for it. And yes NO TN matrix, NEVER. IPS is my choice.

It's still available, there's a newer version:

Unbelievable deal at that price
