This is an interesting read. Rep. Doc Hastings said, “we need to continue to produce oil here in the states.” I think this is very true. Just think what would happen if oil production stopped - it would be a disaster. So many products depend on oil such as gas for cars and other fuels. These BP oil leaks in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska are major catastrophes.

Do you think that it is a coincedence that BP had two spills in two completely different spots? Alaska and Gulf of Mexico are two completely different areas and there are oil spills in both spots.

The US consumes 25% of the world's yearly oil production, yet produces only 3% of it itself, so yup, the GoM will continue to be drilled and at deeper depths. Accidents will always happen - the only reason this got to the forefront of the news was because the news heads were already there because of the nature of the accident - sunken platform, xx dead.

BPs attempt at media blackout shows how the industry is "trained" to keep things low key. Don't like it? then put pressure on the gov to go green. At least Europe has quite a good green pressure group and it's always at the forefront of government elections etc...
