Life After Death- Has anyone ever seen the "White Light"?

I've got Flatliners on in the background tonight, was talking about this just the other day w/ Area51 and also we touched on this a bit in the medical experiements for money thread a few weeks back... the question is- life after death, has anyone here ever seen the "White Light"?

As a kid I was completely hooked by Unsolved Mysteries, and they always ran incredible life after death stories where people would go on and on about a calming white light and a tunnel, so on and so forth.

I've had two near death experiences. Both times I faded to black. No white light, no tunnel, no loved ones no fan faire. I kinda feel like I've been ripped off.

I also have lost a few people very close to me. One member of my immediate family and I made a pact that which ever one of us died we would visit the other one and tell them something only the other would know in numeric form. He crossed over a few years ago and I've gotten nothing. I don't converse w/ psychics or play with ouija boards so maybe I'm not doing my part

Anyways, the premise of Flatliners always fascinated me. Just curious if anyone else here also may have had a near death experience and if so did you get any warm fuzzies? Or if not are you curious enough that you would risk dying to know the answer?

I read an article about when a person's heart stops beating. After the doctors revive the person, he says he saw the tunnel / white light in his dream. I never had a near death experience and I never fainted. However, several people in my life made death threats at me, such as "You're dead" or "I'm going to kill you" or "I want to stab this guy."

"White light" experiences are pretty easy to generate. They aren't fixed to nde's.

Hard to say what they mean, if anything.

Too much nitrous oxide will induce a "white light" experience.

A very good friend of mine died on the operating table during an operation on her thyroid. She was brought back to life and she swore she saw the white light, tunnel etc. Now is that life after death...I don't know, but it does seem a rather common experience for people on the brink of death but somehow cheat it.

Good example. probably a similar or related chemical mechanism too. A nitrous or ether white light experience feels somewhat different in several ways compared to what other kinds of "white light" episodes can be like.
