Be careful of FOLIC ACID

Be careful of some forms of synthetic Folic Acid supplements--might cause cancer!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mar..._b_601126.html

Quote:
Folic acid, the molecule that is used to fortify our food supply, is used in most studies and in most vitamins. It is a man-made, funny looking molecule -- a fully oxidized, synthetic chemical compound that seems to cause all the mischief. It costs less and is more stable than the nature-made form of this nutrient.

On the other hand, the nature-made form or forms, called "folates," do not seem to cause problems. This molecule is often found in foliage -- dark green leafy vegetables, hence the name folate. This can enter your normal biochemical pathways and gets properly metabolized. The folic acid may not be converted or metabolized by the body, increasing cancer and disease risk. The excess folic acid becomes oxidized and promotes free radical production and genetic instability leading to cancer and other disease.

Now it gets a bit more complicated. We are all biochemically individual and genetically unique, and about 35 percent of us have a genetic variation in a gene called MTHFR that helps neutralize the folic acid. If this doesn't work well, then more of the folic acid accumulates from the fortified food and supplements we consume. Those who have this gene are at increased risk of colon cancer because they produce more pre-cancerous colon polyps. In fact, high dose folate supplementation in these people reduced their risk of polyps. (iv)

Good move. The key to judging nutrient value is how well they are metabolized.

Buy organic whole foods and prepare them yourself, that way you know what you're putting in your body.

What about haters who say that organic food is just a marketing scam perpetrated by huge companies?

Wasn't there a report last week that basically said there was something added into every can of canned food in existence, and that now they realize that canned food has been killing us all for decades?

You have to really check out the background of reports like these. There is a very concerted effort now by the pharmaceutical companies to vilify vitamins and minerals and label them in the minds of the masses as toxic, and bad for you. I'm not saying that this report is bogus, I have no idea, but just beware of that. Lots of money is being spent now to convince you of the ?dangers? of vitamins and minerals. Sick people make for great business.

If you want to know more, look into ?Codex Alimentarius,? and also the ?The Food Safety Modernization Act? backed by Big Pharma that is being rammed through now.

big pharma says vitamins & minerals are bad, so how does that benefit big pharma? and i would not put ANY credence in the codex alimetarius, with WHO backing that. they lost me with their minimum protein requirements.

just eat whole foods as your primary foods and you will be fine.

They are the guys making the synthetic forms of folic acid and other vitamins. I'm thinking this goes against their interest.

The best form of vitamins--straight form the source and in NATURAL form

Or the fact that almost 1/3 of the "organic" foods sold in the USA have an origin of China. Who knows how it's grown.

Let me clarify this... he wont eat his beef cause their his friends... (aquarius is really big on friends) kinda like eating your dog... not cause his beef is bad though they took a bad hit with the mad cow scare and it was not even near his animals.

Good point. I read that somewhere. The standards definitely need to be defined some more to prevent this 'workaround'.

Good on her - great to hear that

I'm sure you are well aware though, that it's at 5 years after treatment that counts (as most come back within 5), and only after 15 years can they be said to be rid of that bastard.
