The Oil We Drill In The US Goes Onto The International Market

So we have to buy it like everyone else, so why even bother drilling on US land or in US waters?

It is not American oil, and it supposedly only accounts for 2% of the planet's oil anyway.

It's funny how often politicians spin this fact.

Yeah I am always amazed when I hear someone spouting on that we need off shore drilling so that we can become energy independent or less dependent on foreign oil. Drill Baby Drill does not help the US at all except for the people employed in the industry. But it also doesn't matter because those that buy the talking points would never concede that all that oil just goes up on the open market and has little effect on domestic fuel costs

Let's outlaw deep water drilling and increase taxes on companies that extract natural resources.

If those companies dont like it, they can sell or shut down.

Yep.
Here in the Northwest logging is a big thing. There are many logging companies that cut down the trees only to sell them to companies outside the US who cut them into lumber for building and then sell the lumber back to the US at an inflated price.

the thinking is that since oil is ultimately a limited resource, let's save ours by buying theirs.

i don't necc. agree due to the risks and costs, we spend $1b/day on foreign oil, a good % of that to countries that don't like us.

Obama must agree with you because he is using American tax dollars to fund foreign offshore drilling.

How do you think we feel up here in Canada? We're your #1 oil supplier. If we didn't have to sell on the international market we'd be paying 25c a gallon.

If the US sells the oil abroad it helps it balance the huge amount the US imports. It provides jobs and $$$ for the US.

Or do you think the US Government should shut it down and put more people on the unemployment lists?

The disaster was a major catastrophe and the effects will be felt for years. Much like Exxon Valdez oil spill.
