*** Seeking A Photographer in Los Angeles ***

My dear Ashley has flown the coop and moved herself to LA. One of the 'burbs actually.

Therefore, I need a photog to take sets of her on a monthly basis.

You don't need to be a Dean Capture as A) I don't need that high end of a photo shoot and B) I can't afford it.

Semi-pro, shutterbug wanna be...that's what I'm looking for.

Basically, I want to pay around $300 for a three hour or so shoot that will net me 4-5 nice sets of pics. I can get that in Atlanta all day long. If I'm out of line for LA rates, let me know. But that would make me a happy man.

Let me know if you're interested of if you know anyone that may be. Also, if you would, please send me a link to some of your work or mention who you know. I don't want to send her into an uncomfortable situation.

Thanks.

Steve

I strongly prefer email. steve aaaaaatttttttt brokeamateurs daht youknowwhat.

I am not in LA, but I think that price is a bit low. The reason I say this is that the model needs to get paid and so does the photographer. Three hours of work hardly covers the price to shoot the scenes and also to cover the model.

Good luck with your search

i think $300 is a fair price for half a day as long as all the photographer responsible for is shooting - model provides the clothes and a location if the photog's house or studio isn't adequate.

This makes sense but the studio/location should be provided and model provides all clothes, makeup etc.....

I think what you don't understand is that is the photographer fee only. I am sure Steve pays the model seperately or she gets a %. I'll do it, no problem.

Thanks. FYI though, the model is free for me. Now I feel like I'm overpaying. :-)

$300 for a half day of paysite content that is going to be sold and profited off is really crap. I make about triple that for portfolio work and even more on a commercial shoot. Web is like that though, no one wants to pay for anything and webmasters who have bought my content also wanted it for dirt cheap. Depends on what type of quality you need. With what pay you are offering, dont expect very good quality. I would do it for $300 if she was banging and blowing me too

I bet you can get bm bradley to do it in his spare time. He seems to shoot for the love of shooting in his down time. Don't like him much, but he's one of the more talented photographers in the biz in that area.

I don't know what you think you know or who you think you know but there isn't a person in this industry who will be receiving a check from me. Haven't had a thing but water, a glass of milk or Pepsi to drink. Must be thinkin' of the wrong guy.

No, I am not wrong. There are not set rates for something like this. All depends on what the photographer in question is used to making as well. These hobby photographers and amateurs shooting free to see tits and ass in person or a guy used to making $50 for a shoot would jump at this for sure. The shoots I have done for webmasters in the past, I have charged a MINIMUM of a grand for 3-4 hours. Not spending half a day to make $300 for a site a webmaster will make that back on in a few days. Some people may be willing to work for cheap these days and thats cool. Have fun!

I'm not from LA but if I was I would for sure do it for $300 np. The reason I would do it is cause it's for a solo model that has modeled before and unlike random first time models and porn models with drama.. will show up and get the work done fast and easy esp after you have shot her before. As long as you get along with the model the first time it's nice to have a guaranteed shoot each month that is fast and painless and you don't have to workout a price everytime you shoot her.

Understood, but here is my issue with it. Lets say you shoot 6 sets for $300. Takes you about 4 hours and you shoot again every 6 weeks. Sure, $75 an hour may sound great to some photographers but break that down. $300 over 6 weeks is $50 a week. I can pretty much guarantee this site is making more than that, thats TWO signups a week. If I am not getting a percentage of sales on top of that, no way I work for those prices. If they are only paying $300 every 6 weeks, that takes only two signups to cover, they are practically getting content shot for free. Anyways, thats just my take on it.

You can split hairs as much as you want. But how can you be sure that the site it's used on will make the necesarry sign ups and can be directly attributed to the content shot.

How about the content being stolen and ending up on the tubes, therefore nullifying much of its exclusivity?

If you dont want to take the money, say no thanks, there are a lot of experienced shooters out there who will, including some in this thread

5 years ago I would of laughed at $300 for half a days work. Could make a lot more shooting for magazines. Today now the mags are mostly gone it's more attractive.

Today $300 for shooting a model who turns up ready to work and knows what she's doing is not so bad. If it includes traveling and setting up then it might not be such a good deal.

Have multiple people shoot her. Variety in styles can be a good thing.

This is taking into account the obvious: model safety, content actually completed and delivery/prep of content as needed.

That's not a bad deal if it's a long-term gig. If it's once I'm sure a lot of people would pass on it but it sounds like you're looking to shoot a lot of content. I'd do it if I weren't in the next state over.

Good luck!

Most locations in LA are $100 an hour with a 3 hour min (relationships/consistency can come into play to help this) ... this only works for a photog who has their own studio IMHO

I know lots of great photogs that would be happy do it at that rate IF the work was consistent ... and they could work it around their current sched. But if they just used their house all the time the content will look stale very fast and noticeably not be a young females house, plus now your adding set up/clean up time to their home. Just something to think about as i used to do production and know how it goes. Make sure Ashley comes makeup/hair ready to save time as well. Plus some planned outfits with props always help speed stuff up!

i can email you the contact info of a lot of great guys for this if you want as i have probably used EVERYONE in the la area! LOL

xoxo,
Megan

Sorry but I am a real photographer, not some guy running around with a speedlite on his camera shooting up against a wall. I use anywhere from 3-8 lights and all kinds of modifiers. Just moving to a new set and setting up again takes 15-20 minutes. Then it usually takes the model 5-10 minutes or so to change and touch up. Thats 20-25 minutes right there. Shooting a set plus a 5 minute video takes another 15-20 minutes. You are doing good to get 2 sets an hour so yea, 6 sets in 4 hours is pretty good.

Agreed. Magazines pay next to nothing these days. American Curves gives $800 for a cover and $400 for a layout, so thats cool when I get that. Maxim pays up to $1200 an image depending on who the shot is of. If its one of these B list up and coming actresses/game show girls/reality show girls they pay ok. I make most my money off portfolio work and my rates are arent even that expensive, $600-$1500. I would probably shoot for $300, but it would be one look and 1 retouch. Would take me all of 30-45 minutes. No way I work half a day for $300, but quite a few will I guess so thats cool.

Yes. Back in the good old days we were shooting sets that were easily worth $3,000 each. Shoot two of them in a day and we did not have to work 5 days a week. Good girls like you described were worth twice that. All for solo girl sets no video, put them with another girl or guy, shoot a video and the sky was the limit.

Not sad those days are gone, just glad I lived in them and came to the end at the age I did. Must suck for a 30 year old with a camera today.

People shooting for the custom content prices around today have to work that fast. They have to squeeze as much as possible into as little time as possible. The money dictates it.

Does the work suffer? You bet it does. Dead looks, models on auto pilot, faked orgasms, fewer poses, simple lighting and more.

If you HAVE to shoot 6 sets in 4 hours then that's the real problem. I can shoot a set in 15 minutes, thankfully never had to.
