Adobe Premiere or Vegas Video

I'm gonna start messing with video now. as always I have my favorite tools for mastering. I just can't make up mind on a video editor. Post your experiences with these.... good and bad.

Premiere: http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/main.html

Vegas Video: http://sonicfoundry.com/support/Supp...0&Family=Vegas

I use VV and I love it. I hear it's pretty simple to use and for me it was easy to pick up and learn. I've read a lot of reviews and they all pretty much say that if you compare the two that VV has a few more key features which gives it the upper hand.

However, I'm an avid fan of Adobe products, it's just that at the time VV was purchased for me and I learned it really fast.

I've cut all the CollegeFuckFest movies, and trailers with it.

trailer2

I need to learn compression a little better, but I'm getting there.

edit* one of the reasons we got VV was because it can open and edit WMV files. The only people that complain about us using WMV files are webmasters. Mainly because they can't re-edit our material. The members don't mind, and most of them have the latest software to watch them, and if not they gladly download it from the links inside CFF.

I wanted to compress in Mpeg2 but I can't seem to keep quality and get the file size down. If I don't compress the video, it looks awesome, but is about 5 - 6 times larger than WMV. If I compress the video, it looks like shit. and is still larger.

so far WMV is the only format that we can keep super small in file size, and still maintain quality. (of course our trailers are compressed more for file size, and load time)

I could never get Premiere to export video properly, it always skippid in places...

If you are looking for a solid cheap piece of software that isnt very flexible but works great and you'll pick up literally in 5 minutes, I recommend Pinnacle Studio 8.

Vegas Video by Sonic Foundry is by far superior to premiere in terms of understanding what you are doing editing wise.
It also offers you more options (as in wmv) than premiere does.
I think it's a tad bit more stable than Premiere too (premiere is a mass memory hog).

Vegas Video & it's smaller brother Video Factory have some nice plug ins including Main Actors new mpeg codec that does an incredible job in encoding mpeg files. It's also one of the fastest encoders (software wise) that I've seen.

I truly don't think you'd be sorry going with Vegas Video.

heh, fuck macs. LOL
I used to use a mac everyday. I'll never go back to Mac again. I was blinded by their pretty colors, and "ease of use" (yeah right).

LOL, this doesn't recommend Premiere, and it kinda digs on mac a little by telling them what they miss out on. http://thetechnozone.com/videobuyers...Premiere6.html

Premiere offers an advanced wmv compiler.
It is not the easiest piece of software to learn, but, neither is Photoshop. Pinnacle studio is a good product, easier to learn but not as many options. So are the tools that come with DVStorm, but again, not as many options.

i saw that guy at the mall, doing the same thing, he'd walk slowly at first then jog in a circle, over and over. I told mall security, cops and an ambulance showed up and took him away.

DO you have Cleaner?
That might help you with your compression troubles. Also there are some great papers on line that will help with how to compress mpegs down to decent web size with out losing major quality. Give me a holler if you want to test cleaner

I have media cleaner 5.0..it's AWESOME..except for one thing.
It is the SLOWEST encoder on record! Geez..any idea why it is so durn slow? Even if I don't use the "slowest, better quality" encoding option and go with "standard, less qualitY", on a pentium 4, it creeps along when encoding. (speaking of mpeg here).
