im running parallels and windows 7.

no problems.

and if you're asking if you can catch a virus/spyware using parallels? yes..but it will be contained within the windows install.

I ran parallels for a while then switched to vmware.

Would never go back to parallels. Vmware owns it.

Runs way smoother, better and faster. Plus it supports multiple monitors.

I run it on virtualbox which is free. Either one works fine. If it screws up just delete the virtual part and start again.

I am also new to mac and installed Parallels. It seems a little clunky and made me re-register both my windows operation system AND all of my adobe products.

It was much better just using bootcamp to open XP. I used MacDrive to access the mac files, and some other tool to do it the other way.

No I installed Vmware myself, and I'm sticking with XP so can't comment on 7 I'm afraid.
Installing it is real easy, they walk you thru it like all other software.

Parallels is incredibly clunky compared to VMware, the difference when I switched was massive - please do yourself a favour and avoid Parallels.. Vmware should be fine with 7 as far as I know.

As mentioned in the thread Bootcamp does the job alright too, but rebooting to switch OS's always seemed like a huge pain in the ass to me.

With VMware I can run both (or more should I want to) OS's at the same time, and with full dual monitor support. One monitor for MAC, the other for windows. Seamless switching, you can even copy files from OS to OS

I'm going away for the weekend shortly but if you want to know anything else hit me on ICQ after monday... 156 55034

Did you have to re-register your software on the PC side with VMware?

Been using Parallels for some time now with no problem. I do however have a virus guard on the win x install.

I will go with vmware and windows 7/or xp, most likely 7.

How do you run your dual setup with xp and osx showing on two different screens?

Just get virtualbox which is free and set it up. No cost and equally as good as the others.

VB - You can run multiple screens without extra monitors?

or what??

though your extra screen would be small.

sorry just saw this.. if you get a virus on windows - no it won't crash the whole HD.

Vmware has its own partition of the HD for windows.

I just have vmware running XP on one monitor, and Mac OS on the other. Very simple.

I have Win 7 on my Macboook, it was very easy to install and it runs fine. You don't really have to partition anything, Fusion does all of that.
