I used Trillian and it is useful because it combines many instant messengers such as AOL, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ.

I use pidgin i cant stand trillian, so bloated and not user friendly, imo.

I'm only using Trillian as i wanted a thing that does all the messengers at once. Nothing special about it really.
