Another Content company hits the dirt.

An announcement on http://www.ounique.com/ says they are closing at the end of August and no longer taking orders.

To my knowledge they did not own the content they sold. They brokered for shooters. So not much to sell, but surprised they did not do a blow out sale.

Brokers do not have the same freedoms you and i do Paul.
They still have to answer to their suppliers and i know that i would be pissed if they did a blowout with my productions only to close shop right after that.

Um, if they didn't own anything, what is there to blow out? A domain name and a contact database?

You are a day late, there was a big thread about this yesterday. And yeah I agree with Loch, if you are brokering content you can't do a blowout sale.

They could do a blow out if they wanted to piss off all their content producers lol or just not pay them and close up shop but its good to see they didnt do any blowout or anything. The could have posted last week to place an order everywhere on the net or something like that but thats about it.

There was a thread by Mutt about this yesterday.

Oddly enough I got an email from them this morning. I don't recall ever getting an email from them - which explains why they are no longer in business.

They were famous for the 100 sets for $1000 when a pic set was going for $50 - $80 at that time.

Sorry for posting old news. I miss things here as I only spend a few hours on the computer if any at all.

As for a blowout of course you would need the shooters agreement or a license to sell as you see fit. But I don't see that as a problem if the alternative is closing down.

I'm still here Stefan. LOL

Only those who can shoot what sells to the members will survive. A lot of shooters had to turn away from running content stores and turn to custom work. Simply because their work never sold that well. They ended up shooting solo scenes for $300-$400. While the industry were saying content providers were selling so many times it was saturating the content.

now tell us that you used to make $4000 for a solo set and we have a typical Paul Markham thread again

just kidding with you Paul, the thing from my point of view is that you are right - and you are wrong.

you were always right about the non-exclusive content, it just takes a lot of time and work to run a store and most shooters who work alone don't have the resources for that. thats why many stores failed. We have the advantage that I don't shoot and have the time - the result is that our shop this year up to today made already more than the whole last year. And last year wasn't that bad either.

But you are wrong about the $300 per solo scene exclusive. Maybe it's under your dignity but when someone goes home after a days work with $1000 profit you can't blame him for that. he only has a problem when he has nothing else to make money from in case the day comes when no one orders something new.

the print market is 90% dead - we both know that. the DVD market is 75% dead, also not exactly "news".

from my point of view the content market today is only worthwhile when you either do high volumes with DVD stuff - like Jaques does - or when you have many legs to stand on - like we do. And we keep growing more legs. ;)

Yes the business has changed. But I never saw many take advantage of the good prices when they were there. They did not even go the brokering route.

The result was loads of sites being put up with content that was churned out by people working at a rush.

What happens to the content already purchased from them? Is the license still valid?

maybe - but you can also buy a Porsche or a Yugo. there are always products with good and bad quality and you always have buyers who decide for one or the other depending on different factors. and if your product really sucks no one will buy it and the problem solves itself.
