Does anybody shoot HDR photography?
I love HDR photography. I have seen some really stunning shots as of late. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with it and if you know of a reasonably affordable camera to get me started. I am by no means a professional photographer but I know how to take good pictures from the tips I have gotten over the years. I wouldn't mind picking up a new creative hobby. Any help is appreciated.
Here is some awesome examples I have found: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008...-hdr-pictures/ http://www.davehillphoto.com/ |

Any SLR that you can shoot raws with. I have done it. Its pretty cool.
You dont need to be a pro to shoot this stuff. You stack a stop over exposed pic with a stop under exposed, then you over lay them. The result is hitting a full exposure and color range that one pic cannot give you. Its not hard and the results quick and amazing.

Don't know how accurate that is as far as what real HDR is... but I found that with about 3 clicks from the link you posted. |

I did some with just a basic digital camera that had manual exposure settings and I was quite pleased with what came out in the end

I have fucked around with this and have had some mixed results. its great for buildings and scenery.
People... it is either really cool, or VERY unflattering. Its not Full HDR, but its a decent sample of how you can fuck with things/people and get some cool results... ![]()

I love well done HDR shots, I think they look pretty awesome. There was a photographer doing some with models... I'll see if I can find the site, very well done stuff, not OVER done... which seems to be the case a lot of times.

I just downloaded the photomatix trial software. This is from one image. I tried to manually change the EV levels myself in Photoshop. I got this crappy .jpg off my facebook. I think I would have a lot of fun with a good camera that can take the raw with the proper EV. Not great but my first go at it. ![]() I like the painting look. ![]() |

To have good HDR photo the first thing you have to have is a tripod. Even with a semi-pro camera you can do perfect HDR photos. The more expositions you have from the same scene, the more "detailed" will be your photo. After your shots you can merge them all together in PS or Photomatix, playing with the exposures and the other options you`ll have different "depth". Or try ReDynamix (PS plug-in) that you can simulate HDR with a single photo. Cheers!!!

![]() One thing that bugs me about typical HDR are the "halos" around light-dark transitions (eg edges). You can see them on a couple of pics in this thread |

I agree with that, it's great for scenery or something like a steam train though.
