DVD drive making loud noise

Just trying to play a DVD and the drive is making a really loud noise. It brings up a DVD fine and allows it to play, but the drive makes this whirling sound. Very mechanical sound. I stopped the DVD and the noise continued for about another minute, then it stopped.

DVD drive dying?

On all dvds or just that one?

New dvd burners are only about $20 for OEM (drive only) and $30 for retail (cable and burning software) on Newegg.

Could it be the disc itself? Those things spin pretty fast. I have to occasionally "reseat" a DVD in my player because it's making unusual noises when it spins up.

It's not about the drive, most likely it's just bad/unbalanced disc.
Try few other ones.

I had a batch of CDs that all burnt badly at too high a speed and would made the CD player shake.

my g/f's sony vaio laptop has had a noisy dvd drive for over a year now. As the computer is over 5 yrs old I keep expecting it to crap out but so far so good.
It also had a noisy HD and I was sure it would die however it cured itself and the computer is still going strong.

I know at some point the HD will die so I just make sure to backup the drive each night.
