i have both of them.

SSD is the caveat. my MBP i7 + SSD destroys my IMAC from January that has i7 desktop but 1 tb drive.

i hate myself for 1 not getting ssd on imac, and two, missing the boat on this new refresh.

for this advice, you can discount my advertising invoice 10% thanks.

i7 Mac Book Pro rocks. Got it the 3 day and its way worth it. I like the fact that i can move it around v. iMac.

But the iMac is a bit faster.

i7, non glossy 15" screen, 8gb ram .......... nothing but good things to say about it. Not long ago the i7 iMacs were having problems with the units getting very hot. Go in a store and see for yourself.

Do you want it to be portable or a desktop unit. If replacing a desktop you can get the iMac, or my preference of getting the Macbook Pro and a big ass flatscreen for working at home.

My thought is that the macbook pro may be able to replace my desktop. I can dock it to my 30" studio display. My only issue is the power of it..

lol I should mention I'm currently on a 1.87 Ghz Core 2 HP with 3.5 gbs ram at home. UPGRADE TIME!!!

I take my 17 inch Mac book i7 to set every day with no power cord and unload 4 16 gig Sony SxS cards full of content on to it with one charge for the day.

My older Mac book cant do that. The battery is pretty bad ass like that.
