Advice on producing a dvd title, small project

My partner and I have the simple goal of producing a single dvd containing the footage we've shot over the past year.
The footage we have is good and has sold relatively well on VOD sites.

Questions I have for you guys is this:

I know sites like clips4sale and a few others offer to have a page featuring the dvd title and take a cut of 25% or so for each one sold. It's up to the producer to deliver. Is there a list of small deal distributions or mediums that could get exposure for something a product I could get together?

Is there a chance or anyway or chance of gaining the attention of a company and doing a bulk deal?

Legal:
Can I get away with studying other recent dvd productions thoroughly and putting any boilerplate into our production? Consulting with a lawyer is always a good investment and will probably be done but input is appreciated.

Sorry for being naive, we do have a huge following of message boards (well kinda still do, my actor quit) so I think we can make some more back. We specialize in blowjobs/huge-facials.
Above all else this is a learning experience for me.

thanks guys,

Jeff

Most DVD distributors wont take a one-off. Most want several DVDs in the can before they will agree to a distribution deal. And with a one DVD deal you probably wont get paid. The secret to getting paid is to have more DVDs coming that sell. If you have nothing to follow your one DVD there really is no reason for the retailer/wholesaler to pay you.

Stay with the Clips4Sale idea. You might have to do all the work, but you will get paid.

If you need DVD replication/authoring/packaging I know someone that can do runs as small as 300 DVDs.

thanks...

I think a "thank you" is owed here.

Things look grim on the dvd but it is still something I plan on pursuing. It'll be more over a learning experience for our group if anything as I plan on working in adult ultimately.

thanks....

it's useless to print dvds unless you have established relations with distribution and release titles regularly. it's like taking money and flush it down the toilet. trust me.

make it digital releases and put them on clips4sale, clips.com, hotmovies, aebn - most other sites are not worth it either

DVD companies are struggling to sell the content of their existing producers. So for a new guy to break in you need to show you have something way above what they already have. You have at least 3-5 ready for distribution. That you're committed to producing more in the future. And you will sell them for a very cheap price.

All in all, forget it unless it's a second line of income on existing content production.

I stopped producing DVDs this year.

While there are still small profits to be made, if you are also running a website, that same DVD will end up competing with your pay site, sold on every VOD site, will be on every torrent the DAY it is released and truth be told, there is around a 80% chance you will never even be paid for your DVD. So unless you want to compete against yourself in the current climate and probably not get paid, or at least not paid in full, it's not worth it. Once that disk is made, it will end up everywhere. Accident or not, it will be everywhere, even if you have a contract saying it won't. Shit happens.

If you have zero sites and you're only trying to make a few bucks, the risk of not getting paid is still there but at least you won't compete against yourself.

On top of all of that, there are few companies even worth working with these days and the honest ones are not looking for new scenes. I would steer clear of anyone who is too eager to get your product.

Personally, I no longer think it's worth it unless you're with someone who can move a lot of units, but you'll never get your foot in those doors. Evil Angel for example, they are more interested in working with known directors than they are getting new scenes from an unknown. Brilliant business model and it's paid off very well for John, but because you're not known, you'll never get in. It's a chicken and the egg problem. Other companies.... ehhhh. You won't get in with Jules Jordan, you won't get in with Hustler, and you won't get in with Adam and Eve. You may be able to get on with Pure Play Media but they are not moving huge numbers, but as far as I know they are still paying. I did a few movies with them a while ago, was OK, but nothing worth telling my mom about. If it's foreign (non-eu) you could talk to Third World Media, they will probably take a look at it. Honest guys, but the DVD industry is taking a beating as well so don't expect huge numbers.

Bottom line, you need a lot of titles (20+++) with an honest company to make any decent money in the DVD market. You need to control ALL the vod yourself as well as any broadcast cable rights and foreign sales, if possible (VOD - easy, the others not easy). The distributor will do it for you for a cut. They will also carry more weight than you when it comes time to collect, while you, some lone person, has no weight at all in regards to collecting money.

Good luck.
