How easy is it to get your own merchant account?

I'm based in the UK, and looking at possibility of getting my own merchant account. How easy is this? Anyone have any great links?

7 years ago when i got my 1st merch account my credit was junk and my corp bank account was days old.

I would say yes and that the banks seem to be getting stricter with whom and what they accept for new merchant accounts today versus 7 years ago.
