It all works out in nature then. I hate games & PCs.

(burning smells from comps are never a good thing... don't let it go un-checked out. I had a laptop battery explode a few years ago on an HP)

My windows workmachine lasts for 3 weeks before they need to be rebooted.

My main penguin-box hasn't rebooted in 3-4 months and I raise hell with it...

If you realise the potential of your mac then fair plays to you.

What I hate is the cock sucking little fags at my uni who all buy mac book pro's and then just use it for spotify. What a fucking waste of money, proper apple stuff is expensive but for those who actually use it properly....

Personally I prefer pc's due to some applications I use.

Not anymore, windows 7 really has kicked pc's arse into gear. Its very streamlined and effective not to mention it utilises resources very well.

yeah.... if it was just for browsing the Internet, I wouldn't have a computer at all. I've seen the Internet, and it really ain't all that. For me, it's just another tool of the many tools I use throughout the day to further my goals. That's it. If the tool becomes useless, it goes in the trash with the rest of the useless shit. I don't hang on to stuff. If it's not being used, it's gone.

I have Windows 7, right here on my iMac (secondary machine). Windows Updates still require regular rebooting, nearly all of them. Unless you're getting some kind of special non-rebooting updates that I'm not getting, you're telling stories.

Think the most i've gone is 6 months on windows but that was because it was running 24 hours a day cheating at a game for me.

Currently turned off every night.

nope, not nearly all updates require reboots, most constantly being updated definitions for defender - w/o reboots, usually i would have that thing disabled but it doesn't bother me at all. in regards to other updates some do require reboots but not like you make it sound "nearly all" of them. and now I've seen some updates (probably ms office) that won't bug you with reboot popups but rather show exclamation sign at "shutdown" button in start menu, e.g. updates that patiently and quietly wait for the next reboot/shutdown opp.

as i said in other thread the other day i take good care of my systems without wasting much time. and now you are in amazement the we may not know or ever run the Update that's really amazing Amp )))

Amp, just admit that you can't believe there're people that can use technology not as fool-proof as Macs may be without rendering such technology to the state of it being almost or completely unusable ;)

I admit it. I can't believe there are people that would invest the time required to pull off such a miraculous feat of awe inspiring geekdom.

I think any computer user who runs updates, or pushes their computer hard, or a bunch of other shit I have no clue about and doesn't have to reboot, or never has problems with their computer is full of shit. I guess I'm saying you're a really pussy user, full of shit, or just have the most bad ass of computers ever built. Judging by your recent grandma-on-crack-like posts of news articles, I'm pegging you as a fucking bad-ass-super-user. Good for you.

Linux, folks. Linux. When under the care of expert systems administrators, you will NEVER need to reboot. The same applies to a desktop workstation.

This is one of our own internal servers.

If you want uptime like this, hit me up.

Amp, did you not install any updates on your Mac since then? Safari 5 and 5.0.1 required restarts, not to mention the OS security updates that occur periodically.

Haven't had any security updates that required rebooting... and I don't use Safari.

So you don't run 10.6.4? That was released in June and certainly required a reboot.

I still use XP so it can get flaky after a while. I typically reboot once per month. I keep tasks open as a pseudo to-do list so a reboot (or crash/power failure) is a big productivity hit. Last night when I rebooted I had over 70 windows open.

Mac's are based off Unix, and kernel updates require rebooting ... so I'm sure Macs need to be rebooted for updates too

Only reason I reboot for years now is just Windows updates... don't have any other issues

I just got a new quad core with 16 gigs of ram. It is running Window7 64bit and I just got all my programs added Sunday morning. I still have not rebooted yet, but my old box was at least once a day when I was in Photoshop and Dream Weaver. I'm hoping for at least a month out of this one. It took me hours to get all my monitors working on the new box, but I did finally get them all up and working together. My last program to find is ultra mon.

I use Windows 7 and I have to reboot every three or four days. There's always some kind of update on a program or a problem that requires me to do this. I think it's time to switch over soon. I imagine it will be quite weird after two or so years on PC's
