The news just reported that 76 million

...people in the U.S. get sick every year from food born illness. I had no idea the number is that high. In the U.S. thirteen people die daily from food poisoning.

That is a crazy number. I wonder how many get sick because of allergies.

That is a pretty small number.

Population (300,000,000) X Daily Meals (3) X Days in a year (365)

= 328,500,000,000 meals per year (this is most likely the minimum, as I'd gather most people eat more than three times a day)

So 76 millions is only .02% of each meal.

0.0002%

Not sure if it's safer to just eat lottery tickets instead.

You have to move the decimal over two slots when making it a percent. 76,000,000 divided by 382,500,000,000 is .0002. Which is equal to .02%

Just as if you divide 60 by 100. It comes out to .6, which is equal to 60%.
