People that fail in anything... only one reason for it...
........only one reason..
They GIVE UP too fast.............. ![]() ![]() ![]() Right or wrong? Just a general thing I have noticed , personally I have failed left n right before I got "it right" be it software , new program, or anything I had to learn... I read on many forums and seems alot of people are just looking for a quick let me bu this and press "start" and watch the money come in... jist of this post is that you will fail and fail but eventually you will "get it" so dont give up even it takes throwing shit out the window in frustration or throwing your fist through the walls a few times ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -JDL |

It's a generational thing. Kids want everything now, and don't think long term in any dealings or work they do.
You can't succeed without failing a few times -- unless you have incredible luck.

"failure" simply put, is just verification of one particular way of doing something improperly.
think of it as a checklist of many possible ways to accomplish a certain thing: 1. This method doesn't work (failure) 2. This method doesn't work either (failure) (maybe there are several more attempts and failures here also) the last one you try is always one of two things... a) Success. No need to try any further methods. or b) last attempt was also a failure, and person has given up. Success is no longer possible for this particular thing because no further attempts are being made. whether or not they are "giving up to fast" is vaguely speculative. By what measurement do we gauge the acceptable giving up point? Remember, giving up is not inherently a bad thing. Some things should be given up on. (or never attempted in the first place). However, if the goal is somewhat easily achievable and the person has given up after a single attempt, then I suppose that could be considered "giving up too fast" by a wide majority of people. Ultimately though, no standard exists with which to accurately measure failure based on early termination of attempt other than popular opinion. ![]()

I remeber talking with an older gentleman that made his fortune in gold mining. He said he was about to give up when prospecting a particular parcel - without realizing he was inches away from his most lucrative find. When he dug an extra 4 inches, he founded his company on the gold deposit he discovered.

You're not taking into account that there are a lot of incompetent daydreamers about that have an ability to fail at anything they ever try to do.

the other big thing is people fail to take action to begin with..
they never start, so they never have to fail, but they also never get to succeed... . |

The best analogy I ever heard was that professional sports players get paid millions of dollars to be right only part of the time! A baseball player with a .333 batting average fails 66% of the time!

One of the ways I've "succeeded" - my own definition of "success", that is* - is because I set clear, well-planned GOALS for myself based on TIME FRAMES. Reasonable time frames.
So: I want X amount of sales by X date. IF I have not reached that Goal I re-evaluate when the time limit is near. Am I close to the Goal? Am I heading in the right direction, always progressing towards it? Or am I flaundering, or worse, receding? If so, chuck that Goal and come up with a new one. So what I'm saying is I don't give myself "open-ended" Goals, where I can try, try, try for YEARS without "making it". I think that's foolish. Life IS too short. So make reasonable time frames (6 months, 3 months, a year, etc) and constantly re-evaluate where you are/where you are heading. *My definition of "success": Being able to do whatever the fuck I want to do whenever the fuck I want to do it, and can afford to do so. ![]()

I have a friend of mine that asked me to show him all I knew... Trading Places style... He figured he could stop what he was doing and just get right into what I was doing and be successful at it. After all... He is smarter than I am!
As it turns out his assumption about what this business requires was wrong. He didn't have to be smarter, he had to be more determined than I was. I have taught myself to program in all languages web related. I often create things with no prior knowledge of how they work. I don't stop because I don't understand how a certain function works... And then we come back to your hypothesis and we can see why he didn't succeed in what he was doing before he knew me and couldn't succeed in what I was doing... He simply lacks the drive needed to be his own boss. |

I used to feel bad for these people. Now I realize that we need them. If everyone wanted to succeed on their own nobody would have employees.

things depend a lot on the goal. no matter how hard i try and no matter for how long i try i will never hit the game winning home run in game 7 of the world series. if that's my goal, i will fail, regardless. also, i've failed at things due to events out of my control. my 1st start-up caught the attention of a large corporation who then proceeded to tie up my resources in legal mumbo jumbo, end result, they won, i failed. |

A person may complete something 25% instead of 100%.
Traditionally, the school system gives marks based on completion of timed test.

Maybe you're right after all...
![]() A South Korean grandmother has become a national celebrity by passing her driving test at the 960th attempt. Cha Sa-soon, 69, whose surname coincidentally means "vehicle" in Korean, is now appearing in a prime-time advertisement for Hyundai, Korea's largest carmaker. For three years beginning in April 2005, she took her driving test once a day, five days a week. After that, her pace slowed, to around twice a week. "When she finally got her licence, we all went out cheering and hugged her, giving her flowers," said Park Su-yeon, an instructor at Jeonbuk Driving School. He said that Mrs Cha would not be a danger, since it was on the written part of the test, rather than the practical side, that she had failed so many times. "I wanted to get a driver's licence so I could take my grandchildren to the zoo," Mrs Cha explained. Source

Most of what is said is right but you also have to look at the context and how people go about setting goals.
For example, a man born with the genetics to have a slim body like Michael Jackson will NEVER be able to compete in the World's Strongest Man competition no matter how hard he works and no matter how determined he is. Again, most of what was said is true but you have to first see if it is a realistic goal or not. |
