ePassporte: A New Twist On Things!

Surfing the net today while still bleary-eyed from the night before, my eyes were jarred completely open when I found this in another location and am wondering what you might think of the possibility:

"On September 2nd a malicious action was launched by a group of unknown hackers that targeted the database of epassporte customers. As a standard procedure, an order had been issued through the SKNA National Bank to block all access to accounts. SKNA contacted VISA and terminated the program until the security issue would have been resolved.

"At the request of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank (SKNA), on September 2, 2010, Visa blocked network access for prepaid cards issued by SKNA and operated by ePassporte.com to address certain program deficiencies."

Is this information possibly accurate and was it kept secret by ePassport in order to avoid mass panic and to hide it's security vulnerabilities?

This information was gathered from different sources and may not be 100% accurate, but also may be the most credible information so far uncovered."

I must write that it makes as much sense as some of the other theories which have been offered up, expecially since the three directly concerned parties are playing "Hot Potato" with the ultimate responsibility!

Bullshit. Sourcing that to ADX is not breaking a rule.

The rule is to not spam other boards. Sourcing something is not spamming another board with the intent of stealing members.

Ah, thanks for the calrification on the rules! I will read them more closely next time! I did not see the Krebs security post. Yes it is quite possible that parts of the original Krebs post were deleted or that my source is merely speculating and I indicated that in my OP.

I found the reference on ADX and it does make sense in a way as a security breach would sure as Hell be a "program deficiency"! A security breach would also go a long way towards explaining the otherwise inexplicable moves of funds from wallets to Visa ATM cards, which is exactly what several users have complained about on this very board. If the system were hacked and the hackers had the Visa/ATM info, they could easily clone the cards, move funds from the wallet and then strip them using the card.

ePassporte, VISA and the bank would all three be loathe to admit that their systems had been breached.

Just a scenario which may well have some validity or may be complete bullshit but is nevertheless, worthy of consideration..

Yes, a user NOXED posted this today on askdamagex. Few are touching this because there really is no source. Might be total BS, might come from one of these underground hacker forums... and still be BS. No source what-so-ever = leave it alone.

If ePass had been hacked the bank might well lock up the funds until ePass could very clearly and positively demonstrate that the system was secure and the verification process could easily take a week to satisfy the bank. Combine a security issue with the August 22 changes in certain Debit/ATM card laws and you could have a Mess de Luxe!

I don't know for sure what is going on and I think no one outside of ePass,VISA and the bank does either and none of those three are really giving out any worthwhile information. I also know of no one who can positively show that they have received any money from ePass in the last few days, despite a few posts claiming that they have.

We shall see what we shall see.

In fact, i think this scenario would be positive for people who have funds in epass unless the potential hackers actually succeeded in stealing the money. after removing the security breach epassporte's relations with visa and the bank could then theoretically get back to normal.. it would also to some degree justify epassporte's silence on this..

No reference to anything. However, it's not totally new (been mentioned twice earlier this week) and some have speculated in a link to a US telecom scam earlier this year. Pure speculation.

This is the Visa statement we have seen quoted by multiple sites:

If what Sally posted is the real deal, I don't know about you, but I think if the system's security is the program's deficiency that caused visa lock everything down, I might feel better about a hack being the cause of the balance sheet discrepancies. Provided no one's personal data was compromised, the funds should be able to be tracked down and returned.

Maybe I'm not looking deep enough into it, but I kind of feel like a known quantity such as a group of hackers being the cause seems preferable to being kept in darkness, constantly hearing accusations someone from Epassporte has been double dipping.

Well am 80% sure that epass was hacked in some way. Cause if you remember this shit started in a second. There was nothing indicating that this is going to happaned!
Epass is huge company hacking it would do big damage, even if you dont succeed!

And maybe i'll mistaking, but why did Epass asking for those ID last few days in that huge number, maybe not to wire your money to someone they shouldn't.

In any case we'll wait a little longer, if this is the real deal am sure that Epass will be back on their feet in no time, cause this things do happen!
