GFY can help win popularity contests in Macedonia but can't rally against .XXX? :/

Dave C just said that the comments against .XXX were outnumbered 24 to 1 by people "supporting" .XXX... just today!

Yet GFY can help this guy win online popularity contests? http://gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=984900

Where da comments at people? Sigwhores... a little support here?

The vast majority of people on GFY do not care or can't be bothered for 5 min. of time.

Hopefully it wont be about the numbers but they'll read the submissions. If you read them you can see most of the yes one's are just the same, "bring on the .xxx now" type thing.

But yes peeps - do your bit!

Just for fun, would someone please paraphrase why we don't want .XXX domain names? I've read some of the threads over the last few years, but I still don't see a dire reason why we would need to rally against.

Respectfully looking for a compelling answer before submitting comments. Thanks!

One man's dire is another man's trivial.

In case these will help you decide to stand against the new .xxx TLD, here are some reasons posted already.

Dave Cummings has posted comments such as these...

Here's what I sent them...

Thanks for the reply SimonSays. I'm really trying to get on board, so let me play devil's advocate.

It seems like both of the comments you link to above are testimonials that most stakeholders in adult do not want the new TLD, however, here we are with comments at 24-1 in favor of it. I understand that these votes may not be balanced or equally weighted, but the numbers are overwhelming to the average observer.

How do we prove that this is the urgent responsibility of every webmaster to send a negative comment in to icann? The argument, as I understand it is this:

1 .XXX domain names will be a burdensome expense for webmasters trying to protect their brands.
2 Shady characters are lining up to buy .xxx versions of .coms they don't own.
3 The existence of .XXX could eventually lead to a virtual red light district for all adult websites.

For #1, this doesn't affect me personally. I have less than 100 domain names, and it wouldn't hurt me too much to buy the .XXX's. Not saying it's not a reason to submit comments, just that it's not a real motivator.

#2 isn't so much an argument against .xxx as it is more of a question of process. Is there no conversation happening about who gets "dibs" on the .xxx versions of .com brands?

#3, in my very humble opinion is not such a terrible fate for law-abiding webmasters who play fair and treat their surfers right. It could theoretically make it harder to pirate, cheat and abuse surfers, no?

Again, I'm trying to get on board here, and am just playing devil's advocate. Make me understand, and I'll submit a comment asap. Thanks!

Even though it won't do a damn thing to help, and we probably do deserve an internet ghetto, I sent my letter anyway.

.XXX will become a reality.
