Anyone live in Australia here?

I here the gold coast is a pretty awesome place but the rent is 130AUD it can't mean $130 a month can it. Our dollar is pretty even with theirs.

A one bedroom flat in inner Melbourne is around $300 per week, houses around $400 for a 2 bedroom or more for a bigger house. You can easily pay $500 + per week rent in Melbourne.

Edit: Just checked out realestate.com.au and $130 per week will only get you a room in a house full of students in a dodgy crammed share house. Almost everything under $200 per week is share accomodation in a share house and trust me you don't want to do that.

What AdultKing said! I live in a small rural town and we let out the two properties - (one is a 3 bedroom house and the other side is 3 x two bedroom apartments) - either side of us and we get $200 per week for the house and the apartments are $175 per week each.

On the Gold Coast you'd be paying at the very least $500 per week for something very basic. The same would go for Sydney or Melbourne, depending on distance from the CBD.

I used to rent a 1 bedroom unit in Chatswood, Sydney (NSW) for $360 a week.
That was pretty much the cheapest apartment I could find at the time (6 years ago) now those same units are $400-$450 a week.

Yes most places charge weekly on a 6 month lease. Night life is great, although better in summer then it is right now.

Night life in Brisbane / Gold Coast pretty much consists of thousands of kids throwing up in the gutter, police herding them all around so they don't fight.

Love the place but really not a fan of the night life there.

3 Months, Dec-Feb. Everything is inverted: Summer in USA is Winter in AU, Spring is Fall and vice versa. $130 buys you a night in decent hotel (3-4*), as Adam correctly noticed you'll be looking to pay around $300 per week for a very small apartment on the outskirts of GC.

Australia is much more expensive than USA in almost every aspect.

Yeah but we don't really have seasons, it's summer at least half the year... Our seasons are basically: hot > FUCKING HOT > hot > I can wear jeans without sweating

It depends what you're after. It has it's attractions. GC is basically an apersonal strip mall with pretensions of grandeur full of steroid enhanced shirtless bogans with faux mullets. And that's in winter. Or in clubs. Actually there were that many cut guys in wifebeaters or half naked in SinCity the last time I was there my wife asked if we were in a gay club (It's not, actually I think some girls from the strip club next door work behind the bar.)

But if you can look past that it has a fair amount to offer on at least a casual basis. The casino is small but good. They have a dedicated poker room now. The food can be very good, especially in the north of the city with Shuck and Chill on Tedder. There is a lot of good asian food. The women are attractive and don't wear a lot because of the heat and the nightlife is vibrant. It depends a bit what you're after. Orchid avenue with it's strip and nightclubs is a bit macho and there is a fair amount of testosterone there but I've never had any problems. Mainly because I'm no threat to anyone and I'm a happy go lucky motherfucker. The new centre at Robina is good for movies and whatnot. Basically it's a good place to go but it doesn't really have a personality of it's own. It could be a 5 mile strip mall in a chintzy part of Florida. It's probably because it's quite obviously a tourist destination and it's heavy on gimmicks (is that 4 theme parks now?)
If you could live to the north or south near the water ie somewhere like Burleigh Heads you probably get to live in a nicer area whilst having access to the city amenities.

Byron is kind of incomparable but it's not particularly any cheaper. Nothing beats having a beer in the winter sun at the top pub looking at some backpackers walk past, but not everyone would appreciate the pace or lack of amenities (compared to a city literally 50 times larger). Anyways.. not taking a great issue with the statement. I'm in Byron every week, GC maybe every 2-3 months.. But I have a certain fondness for the shallow painted harlot and you never know with people, some like more of a city vibe. (Although calling it a city is a bit of a stretch compared to the capitals.)

If you are a male I would not suggest you go to Australia. Men there are treated like shit...in fact worse then shit. Turn on a TV and all you see is ads targeting men as women beaters, criminals, drink drivers, etc. Bus stops have sign targetting men, radio targets men, etc. You cant walk ten fuckin feet without seeing some sign attacking men. Everywhere you go women seem to have all the jobs, the best cars, money, everything. Yet according to the Female led Government, women are somehow discriminated against. I cant actually find out how they are discriminated against, but you will hear it 500 times a day from the government and media. The only thing I must admit I can see where women are discriminated against In Australia is the war draft which only allows men to be drafted and sent off to war to die is some far off country.

Let me think, from Muslim sydney to Greek Melbourne to Japanese Surfers Paradise...to good ole Aussie Stanthorpe. A lovely small real australian town with great beer and a great meat pie and some of the best people I ever met in my life.

But let me ask you...do you not feel that men are treated as second class citizens in Australia?
Im guessing if you spoke to any Aussie male that went through the family law court there they would certainly feel that way....http://www.mensrights.com.au/

and....http://www.fathers4equality-australia.org/

Or maybe that long list of men who are falsely jailed there....http://www.innocenceprojectwa.org.au/

or Kevin Ibbs...http://www.innocenceprojectwa.org.au/kevin_ibbs.html Mr Ibbs' conviction was finally quashed in 2001 after this fresh evidence was presented however detectives would later confirmed that a body found under the Mandurah Traffic Bridge on Thursday night was that of Perth resident Kevin Ibbs who had sucided to his death.

Well its good you can look back on it with a laugh. Australia was a great country....I remember going to a place in Brisbane long ago to watch a big fat bloke called Arthur Beetson lead a team of blokes in maroon against a team of blokes in blue....I was in the stands downing tinnies of XXXX and had a great time..after the game walked up the road to the Caxton and everyone was drinking and partying in the street and I got plastered and drank till the sun came up and meet this hot blonde babe and we walked all the way to Lennons hotel and spent 2 days in bed sleeping it off. Aussie men in those days were tough blokes, with a solid tan, and a handshake. The greatest blokes in the world who would cut off their right arm to help a mate. A great place where people could say whatever they damn well liked and walk wherever they wanted without being tracked by a survellience camera.

But you tell me what the fuck happened..because all I see now is a bunch of sissy, nancy ancy pansies getting belted and pushed around by a bunch of femme nazis and treated like shit. The governement has survellience cameras shoved up peoples assholes every where they walk, there are so many discrimination laws people are too scared to even talk.

Australia was a great country and they need to get back to where it use to be.

I think everyone here recognises that dazzling is just one of those guys that has gone through family court and come off second best. It's the exact same everywhere, eg just look at the american men's and dad's rights sites and organisations www.dadsamerica.org etc. It leads to extreme victimhood, a persecution complex and detachment from reality. He'd say the same thing about most western, english speaking countries if they happened to be the one he lost access to his kids in. Not a good situation to be in but A. It's got fuck all to do with Australia and B. Thank fuck there is more to Australia than Stanthorpe (quite a nice place known for it's wine, not beer.), meat pies and getting pissed at the footy.
