Is your hosting "Green"?

Certified Hosting
-------------------------
Our Atlanta data center will have a scheduled 12-hour maintenance window that will begin at 12:00am EST on Friday, October 1st and end at 12:00noon EST.

WE EXPECT THIS MAINTENANCE TO BE NON-CUSTOMER AFFECTING.

As part of our Green Initiative, we will be performing an upgrade to our Redundant UPS Plants on Friday, October, 1st. This is a very large project and the reason for such a long maintenance window.

The purpose of this upgrade will be to install the new Eaton Energy Saver System (ESS) into our infrastructure. In traditional UPS Systems as much as 8-15% of power fed into the system is lost before it actually travels to the servers on the data center floor. By taking the dramatic step of purchasing ESS and installing it in our UPS Plant we expect to be able to get 99% to the floor. What does that mean to the environment? With a data center critical load over 2,000kW, there is a three year energy savings of more than 5,360,000 kWh. That equals more than 6,413 metric tons of CO2 over a five year period , or upwards of 1,870 cars off the road for an entire year!!

Our new Data Center was built with Maintenance By-Pass systems to allow us to perform maintenance on any equipment without the need to take the Data Center off line. We will still be receiving power from our Utility Service and our Generators will be running during the entire window just in case.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

We appreciate your patience while we perform these necessary upgrades and maintenance. If you should require support or have further questions, you may submit a ticket via http://support.icertified.net or call us at 909.498.4415 (or toll-free at 1.800.547.9995).

Thank You,

No we are not. This is a first step in making the datacenter green. We have never stated we are a 100% green host and do not pretend to be. It's simply a maintenance update email sent to our current customers.

Sounds good, can you or someone explain further on it ?

Do they assume that all the energy that goes to this hosting company IS NOT generated by a wind, solar, hydro or nuclear source ? (those don't generate any CO2) But rather by fossil fuel ?

Just wondering.

.

Funny you mention this. We were talking to our facility who just put in a heat plate exchanger. "We put this in to help save the cost of cooling, so you pay cheaper rates". well... how does this exactly benefit us again if we pay a fixed % based on the power we use again? simple. it doesn't.

Legally a datacenter is not allowed to "sell power" but they are allowed to charge a service fee for "access to the power". And those fixed per 20amp circuit fee's for example, should drop if they are paying less to the grid.
