Just called to UK phone via skype, $50 gone, are you nuts there? Then checked skype, they have the huge range of calls in UK and rates differ. Sick rules.

Rates to UK cell phones are sky high because of "termination rates", basically a minimum price set by providers that each provider must pay each other. Since Skype doesn't have traffic to trade it must charge high rates.

Legislation past parliament recently and the rates will be reduced annually, but it's basically the reason why we don't have unlimited plans like you do in the US and Canada.

what did the tel no start with?

if it was 07 (+44 7) then you will have called a mobile. probably cheaper to have called direct.
