Taking the next step - need advice
I posted this question in this thread: http://gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=990348 but it's buried on page 4 of that thread which is now off the front page and really would like some advice.
My situation is very similar to Mikesinner's; I've got a fairly large network of blogs on a variety of freehosts and am ready to take things to the next level. The advice given in the other thread mainly fall into two camps:
Either way, the general consensus seems to be to get my own hosting and domain(s). I'm prepared to take this next step today, but before I do I'd like to know which of these options is generally considered the better of the two? Input will be much appreciated. ![]()

I should add that I saw a few responses in the other thread along the lines of top level domains will garner more interest in trades than sub-domains, however I'm interested in creating a core group of quality blogs so linking out will be primarily limited to my money-making sponsors. ![]()

Try building a few big blogs on domains, they will make alot more money and get alot more search engine traffic.
And be sure to submit your blogs to my link dump, it will give you alot of link backs for 1 incoming link: http://superlinkdump.xh0st.com |

1) for a serious real blog
2) for shit splogs or 3) combine the two approaches. build a main splog/blog or hub on the domain and make subdomain splogs/blogs regardless of the route you choose use those freehosted blogs to feed your main project(s) |

The reality is that long term, you need to do both... So depending on your revenue, you could just start with #2... While it might be true that you could get more links with a domain with just 1 site on it, you can also build links to each sub domain blog which actually gives you more long term linking power... Remember, the SEs treat subdomains as their own "site".

Thank you for the replies.
Looks like I should maybe start with a WPMU install, build those blogs up a bit and use the additional revenue it (hopefully) generates to begin work on the other method as well. ![]()
