More Facebook Spam Lawsuits

Not as eye popping as the suit against Adam Guerbuez but FB is definitely on the warpath.

We employ technical systems to automatically detect and block spammy behavior, provide easy report links across the site, and develop unique and innovative tools to help you protect your account and information from unauthorized access.

We also investigate specific spam attacks on Facebook and use the legal system to go after the people behind them.

This week, in a U.S. federal court in San Jose, California, we filed three lawsuits alleging violations of our terms and applicable law by defendants attempting to trick people on Facebook into signing up for mobile subscriptions and sending spam to their friends.

In three separate complaints, we allege that Steven Richter, Jason Swan, and Max Bounty, Inc. used Facebook to offer enticing, but non-existent products and services. According to our complaints, the defendants, among other things, represented that in order to qualify for certain fake or deceptive offers, people had to spam their friends, sign up for automatic mobile phone subscription services, or provide other information. We claim that by doing this, they violated the U.S. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act (CAN-SPAM), and other state and federal laws.

Looks like more than mere spam was involved. Serious fraud issues.

Way I read it they didn't even spam the site. They did it all above board except for the lying through their teeth with b/s offers part.

Good for Facebook. With the amount of traffic they receive they need to enforce the integrity of their service and set an example. People who abuse their service and the trust of their users for financial gain deserve to be punished.

I know of a few networks that are owned by some heavy hitting blackhats from the past. MaxBounty wasn't one on the list. Wouldn't surprise me either though, a lot of the CPA networks were started by blackhats making huge coin as a means of going legit. Not to mention squeezing a couple bucks extra per lead by cutting out the middlemen. If you're pulling into 5 figures a day, why not drop the $18k or whatever a LinkTrust license costs, broker some offers, and go to town? I made some good bucks with MaxBounty for a while when they had the Doba free trial offer, but that got cancelled on me, shame. They seemed like a good network, and the rumors I always heard were that MB took a strong stance against fraud on their network and were quick to ban/withhold payment...
