A (good) fully managed host will take care of everything for you, if you want you can even ask them to do mundane tasks like add a new domain or set up wordpress.

Unmanaged: if you don't know anything about server admin then you may be able to stumble your way through things with cpanel or similar, but what happens if something goes wrong?

(I have no bias either way, just pointing out that if the shit hits the fan you may have trouble getting help to fix it at an unmanaged host.)

With unmanaged hosting, you are also responsible for keeping your server's LAMP services updated and patched.

Unless you are familiar with unix/linux server maintenance, you are much better off paying the extra few bucks for a fully managed host.

@xrock after reading your previous thread - I would recommend you to check out NatNet - they provide the level of support that you are after.

What sandman said..
possible host
Mojo
Natnet
Rackco
- Hitting up sandman to see what that hosting offer is.
And a long list of others.. I personally like the service at the top 3 listed and cant comment on what sandman's offer is as I don't know who or what the offer is.

Everyone can install and setup their dedicated box but key thing here is do you want to spend time learning that. With us managed means we take care of server setup, administration, backups, monitoring, securing and patching.

Keep on your mind that if you don't make additional deal for 3rd party scripts / apps you still have to take care of them yourself.

I have a managed server with Cyberwurx and have had it since about 1999 the other day they caught a bit of code injected into one of my running systems. Disabled it, removed the code and re enabled it in about 5 min. Then sent me a mail with the details.

Un managed = Do it yourself.

you could always hire a technical consultant/programmer to manage your technical side of things, although thats gonna set you back a bit more than $60/month

Fully managed hosts rock. If not, better learn how to manage your own server. It's a learning curve for sure.

I've been so spoiled with Nat Net.

A good managed hosting service would do this for you, not charge extra.

If you need to ask this question, you need to use managed hosting. Not being a dick, that's just the truth.

YellowFiber managed hosting is the best I've ever used. The absolute longest I've had to wait for a response is 20mimutes. They make you feel like a king.

If you were on unmanaged and thus your server not watched, you may have gotten hacked or had any number of problems. The fact you only had to contact support so few times might very well be because you're on managed server and everything is watched and run smoothly.
