Holding Website Fonts Hostage

Is it right for a web designer to not provide the fonts used on a project out of spite for firing them?

Is there anyone here who can identify a font or provide a resource where it can be found out?

or just post an image. A lot of people can just recognise a font on sight.

if you have the PSDs, just click on the text layer with the text tool and it'll tell you what it is.
Otherwise try WhatTheFont from fonts.com

What if it's a font he paid for and doesn't have the license to just give it out for you to use as well.

is it simply a dick move to not give the font upon being asked by a customer who paid in full?

Did the full price specifically include the font?

Can't you just buy it.

Like I said. He might not have the right to do so.

If this is a commercial font you either buy it or pay the designer who has the license t make your changes.

This is how it is done in the real wrld.

Unless they were free ones or you specifically paid for the font then nope you shouldn't get them.

Look at the price of some fonts. Should a designer give you a $150 font free.

It's like going to a mechanic and saying great you fixed my car, give me that special wrench you used for free so I can fix it myself next time.

If I'm going to use a purchased font, I'd tell the client in advance and tell them how much it costs, it's then up to them to buy it. But usually you can find a free one that looks pretty similar.

Fonts the designer had to pay for, does not have the license to redistribute, etc., should be converted to a Smart Object, Shape or Curves prior to delivering the Creative so resizing of the text can take place. Any edits would have to go through the designer who holds the legal right to the font. If you wanted the font so you can make additional marketing collateral you should acquire your own license...or make your other creatives with a different (free, system) font

Likewise, if you have a design that has a pay font and you want a new designer to make you creatives using that font, when you deliver it to the designer for the job, you need to inform them the font is a pay font and strictly for use with your project. If the designer likes/wants to use the font on his own, they should acquire their own license to use the font.

You = idiot. You know, there are still people around who do not go into a store and steal their food. You obviously are not one of them.
