The Billionaires Want More, More, More!

The billionaires are on the warpath. They want more, more, more.

In 2007, the top 1 percent of all income earners in the United States made 23.5 percent of all income -- more than the bottom 50 percent. Not enough! The percentage of income going to the top 1 percent nearly tripled since the mid-1970s. Not enough! Eighty percent of all new income earned from 1980 to 2005 has gone to the top 1 percent. Not enough! The top 1 percent now owns more wealth than the bottom 90 percent. Not enough! The Wall Street executives with their obscene compensation packages now earn more than they did before we bailed them out. Not enough! With the middle class collapsing and the rich getting much richer, the United States now has, by far, the most unequal distribution of income and wealth of any major country on earth. Not enough!

Sadly, the people that need to read that, won't.

Instead, they've been spoon fed to believe that they too will one day be a multi-millionaire so they need to support all of these ideals about protecting the rich in the interest of future self-preservation.

...if they do not believe they will one-day be rich themselves then they've been brainwashed to believe that if the top 1% doesn't have another $30 million stashed away with their private banker that they will no longer hire with the remaining $700 million they have.

There is a class warfare in America right now. It is the lower and middle class vs. the 1% and anyone that doesn't see that for themselves is an idiot.

What sucks is that there is a peaceful way for everyone to co-exist but the same greed that got these people so rich prevents them from making even the smallest sacrifice to achieve a better balance.

From what I can tell, shit started hitting the fan sometime in the 80's.

I've posted this link before, but it is a great article explaining exactly what is going on:

Yep most find a poor GOP supporter that's not a Jesus freak or a gun freak and I can guarantee you he supports the GOP because he has this notion the he is going to be a millionaire one days and needs to have low taxes to keep him rich. What I find funny is that if you make $1 mil a year and even if you paid 80% in taxes you're still bringing home more money that 95% of Americans so why complain? Now befoe some idiots chime sin and says I'm advocating a 80% tax rate I'm not. I'm making a point. Going from 33% back to 40% is NOTHING for these people.

Yep. I'm not sure where they get this idea. Ok first it's aknown fact that RIGHT know corporation are hording $1 TRILLION they should be using to hire people. Our economy would be fine if these companies spent it on creating jobs.

Also think about say I won $200 million in the Powerball. Am I all of a sudden going to go out and create some fuckng jobs? Fuck no. WTF would I do that for? What, am I going to buy a Burger King franchise or something for kicks? Not likely. Go ask the THOUSANDS of lottery winners over the last 20 years that won at least $5 million how many jobs they've created. Giving people millions of $$ doesn't mean they are going to create a job. I've never heard some ANYONE that won one of those $100+ mil lotteries talk about how they are going to go out and create jobs. I've never hear some sport guy signing some $50 mil deal say a thing about how he is looking forward to creating jobs. Face it if you come into millions of dollars the LAST thing you are thinking about is creating some jobs.

I remember about 100 years ago the russian people got tired of the richy riches and their greedy attitudes same with the French about 200 years ago. Let's say in both cases it didn't turn out well for the greedy fucks. Perhaps they should learn from history.

Makes me sick that these rich fucks complain about their taxes and yet guys are basically getting minimum wage risking their asses in Iraq and Afghanistan protecting the livelyhoods of these greedy assholes. Would it hurt you to pay a little more so we can pay these guys a decent wage to keep America free so you can make even more billions?

Seriously if you have $1 bil in the bank earning ZERO interest you could still spend $28K a DAY everyday for 100 YEARS.

Does a rich person have the same right to their property as a middle class person? Then does a middle class person have the same right to their property as a lower class person? And lastly does the lower class person have the same right to their property as a third world person?

I know one thing. The super rich have a responsibility to give back to the wonderful system that allowed them to get rich in the first place. If you're going to step on the heads of the middle class to make a few million then at least have the decency to pay your share.

Of course not. But your clear misunderstanding of basic economics does not solve that problem. If you redistribute wealth it will cause inflation and no real wealth was obtained by the middle class.

Not going to answer the question?

They do? So does the lower class have the responsibility to give their money to the third world countries for being allowed the opportunity to be GIVEN money from the government and tax payers?

Or do you believe people are unequal?

Tax breaks for the top 1% or 2% will not create jobs, and will not fix our economy.

LOL who cares?

America was bread for the people to be slaves to the rich. You blind the people with false hopes of making millions and they work twice as hard.

Now all these fat lazy americans are whining? what about exactly? because they are realizing their entire existence is to serve their rich masters?

This is the country americans wanted. This is what they got. As you push for a nanny state you are pushing for more control over your everyday life. And basically eliminating any possibily of making it.

Good for you America! Now go watch some more political news so you can be "informed".

What a ridiculous article. A family making $250,000 per year are not a "billionaires". A $1 million estate (the amount of the exclusion against estate taxes in 2011) would make a person a "millionaire".

While it is obvious that most of the people on this board either don't make enough to pay taxes or else evade paying their taxes...... you don't have to be a rich taxpayer to understand the basic concepts of private property and the right to keep your own assets free from punitive confiscation from the government. It is a basic concept of liberty.

The problem is that many here would punitively tax the "rich" or "super rich" simply because they are what they are.

It's amazing watching the unintelligent explain how those who succeeded somehow did it on the backs of the lower classes.
Hilarious!
It's the mindset that keeps you at the bottom.
This is the land of opportunity, paid for by the rich.
Your failure to grab that opportunity is because of your own poor decisions, lack of work ethic, or lack of intelligence.
None of which is the fault of your betters

Um if someone works 1 hour for you, you are succeeding off their back.

The rich are able to succeed off peoples backs because of peoples own personal lack of intelligence.

the 2nd part is correct.

This is quite amazing. Some of the huge international companies are as big as countries or bigger than countries. So, what happens is there is a McDonalds flag next to the Canadian flag, or something.

I read a group of 40 millionaires signed a letter to the politicians that they dont think their tax rate should be lowered during this crisis.

Well, you lost the first point so you introduced a Red Herring. You have tried to move the discussion defining jobs to a discussion of outsourcing. Nice try but no.

clearly to fix this we have to cut taxes for the rich.. because wealth trickles down right?

America is probably the only country on earth where the underclasses actively campaign and vote for policies that completely fuck them over.

Trickle down has never worked, and we've had these fantastic tax breaks in place for almost 8 years. How's that been working out for us? Worst economy since the Great Fucking Depression! Meanwhile the top 1% or 2% now control 90% of the country's wealth.

Number of people on GFY that are part of the top 1% - ZERO... yet half of you assholes defend the destruction of the middle class.

Classic!

Or perhaps the intelligent part of the voting public understands that those who pay the most, deserve the same cut in taxes as those that barely pay.

Most Americans don't hate their betters, they strive to become one of them.
It's only a vocal minority (let's call them 'rabble') who shout the idiocy of destroying the middle class, etc. Etc.

Meaning, 650,000 people out of 307 million worked their ass off or got lucky in business and made the money themselves. That's roughly 1-500 Americans who made it through hard-work, being smart, and creating jobs or opportunity. So let's piss these people off and take away their incentive, good ideas, and opportunity by taxing them more.

It sickens me to watch what Americans have become. It use to be an embarrassment in this country to get a "hand-up", but now most want a handout or feel some sort of entitlement or have a delusional reason for one.
Great misread of the information! Congrats!

They have the same cuts you obfuscating jackass. We have a progressive tax system, everyone pays the same tax on the first 250k and the same tax on the next 250k. The more you make in this wonderful land the more you pay.

To dumb this down to a talking point is the epitome of stupid. It is a 100% fact that tax cuts to the rich do not trickle down. It is a fact that if the middle class isn't given room to breathe that the entire economy suffers.

There are many people that are my betters, you aren't one of them with $1 or $1 billion.

How does raising the tax rate for the upper 1%, give the middle class room to breathe?

Listen raising the taxes on the Rich Business Owners, is NOT going to cut their profits. They will figure out a way to keep the profits the same. Most of the ways will not be good, as greed always takes over. Prices will go up, or employees cut, or cheaper made products. Sad but true!

One thing that I do find funny is people saying if we don't raise taxes for the rich, it will cost us more money in the long run. Ha it does NOT Cost us more, it is just less taken in. How about we CUT fucking spending. Maybe do Both raise taxes and Cut spending??

I heard they are thinking of a .15 per gallon gas tax?

Your right Income taxes are NOT going up, but all the other ones are!

Have a good day!

If someone making 1m a year in profit, who employs let's say 10 people, gets a tax increase of 7% (33 to 40), thats 70k a year less profit for that person...

Now, there is 2 options here, either he just let the gov take an additional 70k from him, which might seem little compared to the 1m, but I think its more than most people on this board make a year so claiming its not a lot is just stupid...

OR, how about he tries to recoup the 70k and fires one of his 10 employees? Now who did that increase help? <G>

I have 2 ideas though:
1) _cut_ _EVERYONES_ taxes, just cut middle and low class more %age wise than the rich, it will give everyone more money to spend and noone can really complain...
2) make it an option for the 1m guy to either get his taxes increased by 70k a year or pay each employee 7k more... how about that?

I for one would be much more inclined to make my employees happier than to pay more to the government who, quite frankly, does not do me any good that I can see...

I say we end the penalties imposed by our government for being smart enough to earn more money than our peers. Saying the rich "have a responsibility" to give back is BS. If you can't hack it deal with it. The more you tax the wealthy the worse off the country will be.
