Hi Juicy,

What cart did you go with?

On our perfumestore we had Osc and am now going with magento, coders are working now.

I know it can be a resource hog but the features, etc are pretty nice..

Very wise decision. Magneto is a clusterfuck of poorly written code and terrible use of queries.

Except for being a resource hog (get a fast server) - magento is a very good piece of cart software...

They have extensions for everything - a huge community to help with issues, etc.

This will be the first store we have run Magento on and I am very excited.

Magento is winning top awards all around and will surpass most open source out there...

I have looked at this cart a few times and get there email updates.

It is very popular, has a good admin, front end, etc..... It's still pretty new - so I would wait a bit for production level but tons of stores are using it on a day to day basis..

Hey Todd , I went with Xcart. I had a license from 02 and decided to go through that route... Added some custom mods to it and such and still tweaking it as needed. I used it in the past and had a working knowledge already of it ... I tested Magento and for out purposes it was over kill for the product and site at the time.

Magento is overkill for most sites.

We couldn't get it to do more than 6 or so pageviews per second without memcache. Without memcache rendering pages took > 1 sec (increasing significantly with more load). This was on a fairly high-end server that shouldn't have had any problems at all. We ended up using Drupal and x-cart.

I don't know who is giving Magneto awards but I'm betting it's marketing people, not developers.

I tried Magento last year and it shut down my server on HostGator and we tried another big name host and same issue. It is definitely a memory hog for servers. We went with ZenCart since it has been around a long time and pretty simple to use. I have heard some people using Volusion for their stores with good luck.

Someday I will change systems or maybe just have someone do a really nice ZenCart Template for me to make it look nice. But most have wanted an Arm and a Leg to do an adult toy store template. Good Luck with your store

I had someone want this massive Magento based site and it turned out they had ONE single product to sell. Total overkill. Massive headache of a project. But the customer had heard about Magento and there was no convincing them to use anything else.

There are a ton of viable alternatives if you're not running a store with huge warehouse of products for your catalog.

Hostgator?

We had performance issues on a dedicated server with mysql running on another dedicated box.
