Experience with SSD's?

Does anyone have any experience with running an OS that doesn't support TRIM on an ssd? Degradation issues? How will it hold up compared to let's say a couple WD raptors in raid 0 after 6 months?

got some embedded linux running on an SSD. We tried to burn out the drive with some accelerated aging tests. All we really found was the write time would increase if you really abused it, but we never got it to fail.

How would you compare the speed now to the speed when you first got them?

I have not noticed any degradation of speed. That is the deal, you are not dealing with moving parts any more.

All SSDs degrade (not related to having or not having moving parts, it's more of a fragmentation issue) but I'm interested in real life experiences.

Anyone else experiencing no noticeable degradation like Baddog?

I'm running Windows 7 on two 256GB SSD's configured with RAID 0 and they're smoking fast! Haven't really been using this set-up long enough to see any speed degradation. Don't even know if the drives themselves support TRIM.

Allie's also been running two 256GB SSD's configured with RAID 0 but on OSX on her Macbook Pro and it's also fast as hell. She's had her system about 18 months and hasn't seen and speed degradation issues.

I'm wondering if the loss in speed over time that is supposed to be a problem with SSD's is a "theoretical" slowdown that may be noted using benchmarking software but not something you would actually ever notice?

Well, since you are running them in RAID0 it doesn't even matter because the RAID controller won't pass the TRIM commands to the disks.

this review says that Win 7 supports TRIM:

Quote:
The long claimed solution to these problems is the 'TRIM' command, integrated into Windows 7 since the new operating system’s launch late last year.
