It looks good but even new movies have an early 80's TV feel to them. For some reason Doctor Who comes to mind. |

what's better LED or LCD? and why do people ask me if I watch it in a dark room or if I watch it in daylight, I don't care!! Whats the newest and greatest technology??
|
There is an actual term for that. Its called the "soap opera effect"
Took me a few days to get used to it. I have a pair of 55" Samsung Series 8 LED-LCD with 240Hz refresh. |

i am going to be getting one of these soon. finally decided to get rid of the trusty old tube tv when i move. is a higher refresh rate better? what are some things to look out for? will i have to sit directly in front of it to watch it properly?

70" in the living room and a 42 in the bedroom. Staying at Ceasars, TV looked small
|
yeah the LED makes it look like everything is taken on a camcorder for a bit, everything looks so real
|
I love my Samsung LED,so much better than expected
|
lower the refresh rate, its too high for normal digital cable/sat. The only thing that would get the benefit from over 120hz is blu ray or a video game.

You can turn it off. It's called True-Motion on Samsung and other makers have different names. Go into the settings and turn it off if you don't like it.
If you play games online, you need to turn all processing off because it causes too much input lag. |

Costco just started carrying an 80inch tv. Not sure LED or what. Looks pretty good but you need a small movie theater to sit in.

The first thing I watched in that 240 mode was Lord of the Rings on cable, and it looked like Gandalf was in my living room. I was tripping out on it. Is that what you're talking about? |

You are seeing a 120hz or higher screen refresh rate. Each TV brand has a different name for this such as "pure motion" or some such thing but its the refresh rate you are noticing. It makes things look very very sharp - too sharp for alot of people - and it is sometimes described as the "soap opera effect". The high refresh rate is necessary for 3D but distracting for 2D. For this reason you can adjust the refresh rate of your TV in one of your menus somewhere. Look around then experiment for the rate you like the best. |

I purchased a 42 inch one about 3 months ago and tbh I prefered our old flat screen Sony Trinitron TV. The pic on the old TV looked much better. The only thing i like about the LCD is its weight, nice and easy to carry if you move lol

Love my Samsung LED LCD 46" and with Samsung Apps like Hulu, Netflix, Vudu (love this app!), Blockbuster and more
